The market for e-bikes is huge and continues to grow. Not just for e-bikes themselves, but also the individual components. In the context of the electric drive alone, various suppliers are currently competing for the favor of bicycle manufacturers as well as of customers. Popular manufacturers in the mid-drive motor sector include Bosch, DJI and Pinion. Gobao is now also attempting to break into this market with two new electric motors.
These are the P100 and the P100 Pro. The Pro version is 50 grams heavier, but is said to offer up to 10 Nm more torque, or 20 Nm more in boost mode for a whopping total of 120 Nm. The maximum power of the P100 is specified as 750 watts, while the P100 Pro is said to be capable of 850 watts, but the rated continuous power is still stated at 250 watts. This is due less to technical than to regulatory restrictions; a higher rated continuous power is illegal for e-bikes that do not require registration in countries such as the UK or Australia. In Canada and the US, the standard power allowance for street-legal e-bikes is 500 and 750 watts, respectively, although laws can vary by province or state and may have different rules for off-road use.
Gobao offers not only a motor, but also the rest of the electrical system necessary for an e-bike, namely various batteries with a capacity of between 600 and 804 Wh and two different displays. According to a report, Gobao motors are likely to be installed in Hepha e-bikes, but we have not received any concrete product announcements for new e-bikes with this motor system so far.
