Deal | FromSoftware's iconic mech combat game gets a sizeable price cut on Steam

Although FromSoftware is mainly known for pioneering the Souls-like genre, the company has an even longer legacy developing mech fighting games. Over the years, it has garnered a dedicated following. Its latest iteration, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, released in 2023 and while it wasn't nearly as successful as Elden Ring that came a year earlier, it was a breath of fresh air for fans who had to wait eleven years for a new Armored Core game.

In Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, you play as C4-621, a mercenary on the planet Rubicon. As a freelancer, you have to complete numerous missions provided by the planet's factions: Balam Industries, Arquebus Corp and the Rubicon Liberation Front. Missions are mostly linear, but each map has its share of optional items that help with lore building. To experience everything the plot has to offer, we recommend you play the campaign at least thrice.

At the end of each mission, you get a bounty. That is the primary currency you'll need to upgrade your Armored Core with newer parts. You can mix and match components and come with up with unique designs, or download pre-built mechs made by other players. Some bosses will make you go back to the drawing board dozens of times. If you're struggling with a bit, it is often of a build issue than a skill issue.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon lets you replay a mission as many times as you want. At the end of each cycle, you get a rank. 'S' is the highest, followed by 'A' and so on. Your rank is determined by numerous factors, such as mission completion time, ammo used, enemies you dispatched, damage taken, etc. Getting an 'S' rank initially might be daunting, but it gets easier as you unlock newer, more powerful parts for your Armored Core.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon can now be purchased for $35.99 on Steam, making it 40% cheaper than its asking price of $59.99. If you want the digital art book and soundtrack, the Deluxe Edition can be had for $41.99.
