Zepp Health is rolling out a new software update for the Amazfit Helio Strap, which is a screenless fitness tracker. This firmware carries the version number 2.7.0.2, but it is still unclear if the new software is already being rolled out to all users, or if the company has planned a phased rollout. It should also be noted that the Amazfit wearable just received an update back in early December, as we reported.
Anyhow, this small 2MB software update promises several improvements, although the basic feature set remains largely unchanged. According to Zepp Health, the sensors have been improved with better algorithms, which have been refined at the software level. The company specifically mentions and improved algorithm for slope tracking, so the Amazfit Helio Strap will be more accurate when estimating sleep duration, sleep quality and individual sleep stages. According to the changelog, sleep monitoring is now enabled automatically.
In addition to these sleep improvements, the wearable should also be better during regular workouts thanks to an improved algorithm for heart rate measurements, which is also included in this latest firmware. Moreover, users are now informed if the battery was depleted after waking up, at least if the state of charge dropped below the corresponding threshold during sleep. The changelog also includes a bullet point which claims that various other known issues have been addressed. The Amazfit Helio Strap retails on Amazon for $99.
