Teenage Engineering products are typically extremely expensive. The TP-7 audio recorder, for example, costs $1,499 at Amazon, while the matching CM-15 microphone is sold separately for $1,119. With its latest PC case, however, the design studio is now taking the opposite approach, as Computer-2 can be ordered free of charge.
While the case is currently sold out, interested customers can enter an email address on the product page to be notified when the product is back in stock. The Teenage Engineering Computer-2 consists of a single plastic plate with a few hinges and an integrated carrying handle. The case is shipped disassembled; assembly instructions are available online as a PDF.
No tools or screws are required for assembly. The design is almost identical to Computer-1, a case currently available for €99/$99/£99. The slightly transparent plastic not only gives the newer case an unusual look, but it is also considerably lighter than steel and aluminum cases. However, the relatively compact case is only compatible with smaller components.
According to Teenage Engineering, Computer-2 accommodates a mini-ITX motherboard, an SFX power supply, a dual-slot graphics card with a maximum length of 18 centimeters, and a single 80-millimeter fan. The dimensions are yet to be published, but the case is likely to be roughly the same size as Computer-1: 17 cm wide, 19 cm deep and 28.5 cm high.
