Fortnite Winter Royale event offers up US$1 million in prizes

Epic Games has revealed details about the upcoming Winter Royale tournament for its smash-hit game Fortnite. The Winter Royale Qualifiers is an open event that will be accepting players based in either the North America (NA) or Europe (EU) regions. Fortniters will have the opportunity to record high scores in the online battle royale title, with the highest-scoring players receiving an invite to the finals. Epic is planning on expanding to other regions in the future.

The qualifiers for both regions will run from November 24 to November 25 and are open to any Fortnite fan. Gamers who are selected as the top performers will be invited to regional finals, which take place from November 30 to December 1 for EU and December 11 to December 12 for NA. Epic has stated that there is US$1 million in prizes to be won, which is another demonstration of the Fortnite creator’s commitment to esport.

The Winter Royale event will give developers at Epic the chance to test the systems that are expected to be used for the 2019 Fortnite World Cup. A recent content update (v6.30) has been announced that includes fixes to in-game tournament matchmaking. It also includes dynamite as a new weapon, ideal for blowing up structures that may contain a hidden rival.
