First Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU benchmarks announce the arrival of a new performance champion
Qualcomm has finally unveiled its flagship chipset for the year, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Marketed as having the world's fastest mobile CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Elite ditches ARM's Cortex cores in favor of Oryon cores, and sees massive performance gains as a result, with QRD benchmark tests showcasing the chipset's class-leading CPU prowess.
As shared by Geekerwan, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite earns a score of 3,242 on Geekbench 6's single-core CPU test. That's better than the Dimensity 9400's score of 3,010 but worse than the Apple A18 Pro's 3,509. It's in the multi-core test that the Snapdragon 8 Elite lives up to its tag of having the fastest mobile CPU, however. It scores 10,521, crushing both the A18 Pro (9,376) and Dimensity 9400 (9,317).
It's a similar affair on AnTuTu, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite records a CPU score of 679,852. The Dimensity 9400 on the Vivo X200 Pro remains within touching distance with a score of 652,381.
That said, the new Qualcomm chipset falls behind the A18 Pro in the efficiency department, with a power draw in the region of 16.8 W when running Geekbench's multi-core test, versus the Apple chipset's 11.9 W. The Dimensity 9400 delivers the least efficient CPU this year among its peers, sadly, with a power draw of around 18.6 W.
Evidently, the Snapdragon 8 Elite makes a strong case for indeed offering the fastest mobile CPU yet. It outperforms MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 across all notable CPU tests, and is only edged out by the Apple A18 Pro in peak performance scenarios. It's important to note that these tests were carried out on an engineering machine, and not retail devices. The Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13, and iQOO 13 are imminent, however, and we'll be sure to keep you updated with real-world performance numbers when they're available.
