First AMD Hawk Point laptops hit the market: HP Envy X360 14 convertible with Ryzen 7 8840HS now available for $1,049.99
Among the first AMD Hawk Point laptops to hit the market is the 2024 HP Envy x360 14 convertible now available for $1,049.99 (+sales tax) on BestBuy. Unfortunately this price point only provides a 14-inch IPS touchscreen with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 62.5% sRGB color gamut.
Granted, the Ryzen 7 8840HS is one of the best processors in the 28 W TDP class thanks to its speedy Zen 4 cores combined with the Radeon 780M iGPU as well as a second gen NPU for AI tasks and HP couples it with 16 GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAM and a 512 GB PCIe 4 NVMe SSD. However, the other components are not really doing this model justice considering the price.
Besides the rather subpar touchscreen with 300 nit peak brightness, the port selection does not feature any USB4 connectors. Instead, HP is limiting it to 2x USB-C 10 Gbps, 2x USB-A 10 Gbps (one with PD), and HDMI 2.1 video out plus audio combo jack. Due to the slim profile that measures 0.67 inches, there is no GbE jack either, so internet connectivity is ensured only by a MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card.
There are some more pros, too, thankfully. HP is the only laptop OEM that provides 5 MP webcams with IR sensors. The two speakers with DTS:X Ultra support provide a decent sound and the 59 Wh laptop battery supports fast charging plus up to 17.5 h uptime for video playback. Additionally, this model weighs only 3.08 lbs.
