As I write this, the latest Firefox version available for update via the browser's built-in system or for download is labeled 78.0.2. However, version 79 should arrive any minute now. The update is not exactly a big one, since the main change to talk about is Enhanced Tracking Protection 2.0. Obviously, the release of Firefox 79 will also push forward the Beta, Developer, and Nightly editions as well.
According to gHacks Tech News, Firefox 79 is a light release that brings a "protection from unwanted first-party cookies" setting enabled by default, and it doesn't stop here — tracking protection is also enabled by default but configured to deliver best compatibility with loading sites. Obviously, options to whitelist certain websites are also available. The default tracking protection settings can be quickly changed to "strict" or "custom" with the risk of website loading problems.
Mozilla only revealed that Firefox for Android will get "various stability and security fixes," so it is very likely that there will be no obvious changes to the mobile version of the browser.
The stable Firefox 79 release for Windows/Linux/macOS pushes forward the Beta and Developer editions to version 80, while the Nightly edition moves to version 81. Firefox ESR 78.1 is also expected to arrive later today. Feel free to drop a comment as soon as you get your update — as I publish this, my Firefox is still stuck at 78.0.2 without an update notification available.

In my early school days, I hated writing and having to make up stories. A decade later, I started to enjoy it. Since then, I published a few offline articles and then I moved to the online space, where I contributed to major websites that are still present online as of 2021 such as Softpedia, Brothersoft, Download3000, but I also wrote for multiple blogs that have disappeared over the years. I've been riding with the Notebookcheck crew since 2013 and I am not planning to leave it anytime soon. In love with good mechanical keyboards, vinyl and tape sound, but also smartphones, streaming services, and digital art.
