Firefox 87 now available with SmartBlock, as well as many minor fixes and tweaks
Earlier this week, Firefox 87 arrived with SmartBlock for Private Browsing — a new intelligent tracker blocking mechanism that provides stand-in scripts to decrease the chance of a website breaking on load. The list of other changes includes a new default HTTP Referrer policy, full support for VoiceOver in macOS, and more.
The browser market share worldwide doesn't look good for Mozilla right now, with Chrome reigning supreme at almost 80 percent and all the others below 10 percent. According to Kinsta, Firefox currently holds third place with 7.69 percent, followed by Microsoft Edge (5.83) and preceded by Safari (8.87). However, Mozilla keeps improving its product, and less than two days ago, Firefox was updated to version 87.
Firefox 87 comes with the following noticeable changes:
Less website breakage in Private Browsing and Strict Enhanced Tracking Protection with SmartBlock, a feature that provides stand-in scripts.
A new default HTTP Referrer policy that trims path and query string information to prevent accidental leakage of sensitive data.
Full support for the VoiceOver built-in screen reader on macOS.
Silesian locale (szl) support.
In addition to the above, Firefox 87 also sports various security fixes, as well as solutions for accessibility-related bugs that affected video controls, the Add-ons Manager, and more. The Enterprise edition got its own set of bug fixes and new policies, while the tools and the Web Developer menu overall received their share of adjustments and fixes as well.
Firefox 87 is now available for desktop users across all major platforms. The mobile versions should get updated soon as well.

In my early school days, I hated writing and having to make up stories. A decade later, I started to enjoy it. Since then, I published a few offline articles and then I moved to the online space, where I contributed to major websites that are still present online as of 2021 such as Softpedia, Brothersoft, Download3000, but I also wrote for multiple blogs that have disappeared over the years. I've been riding with the Notebookcheck crew since 2013 and I am not planning to leave it anytime soon. In love with good mechanical keyboards, vinyl and tape sound, but also smartphones, streaming services, and digital art.
