Epson unveils new Expression XP-8800 printer with color touchscreen

Epson has launched a new Expression XP-8800 photo printer in the US. The company’s new Expression printer features a 6-ink color ink system and a built-in scanner and copier. You can use the printer to print family photos, greeting cards, and more in up to 8.5" x 11” borderless print format.

Epson claims that the printer can print high-quality photos from your laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone with 10 seconds of processing time. The Expression XP-8800 has a 4.3-inch color touchscreen. Additionally, it also supports Wi-Fi, which means you can also control the printer directly via the Epson Smart Panel app.

It offers two separate trays for plain and photo paper and can handle up to 200 sheets. There’s also a rear feed at the back for specialty paper. It uses 340-series 6-color Claria photo HD ink cartridges: one black, one cyan, one magenta, one yellow, one light cyan, and one light magenta. Unfortunately, the printer doesn't support third-party cartridges or ink, which means you need to depend on Epson’s cartridges only. 

The Expression offers a maximum printing resolution of 5760 x 1440 DPI and the ISO speed is up to 9.5 ppm when printing in color, while the resolution for the black print is 720 x 720 DPI and the ISO speed is up to 9 ppm. 

The rest of the highlights of the Expression XP-8800 include wireless printing with WiFi Direct, automatic two-sided printing, borderless printing, copying, and scanning. The printer lacks wide-format printing, though. Epson also offers a Creative Print mobile app for smartphones, which further allows users to create custom cards, stationery, and more, and you can directly print them from the app with a single command. Speaking about dimensions, the device weighs 6.64 kg (~14.6 lbs) and measures 349 x 527 x 183 mm (~ 13.7 x 20.7 x 7.2 inches).
