Eluktronics Mech-16 GP and Mech-17 GP2 are the first GeForce RTX 4090 laptops to retail for under US$3000
The first laptops sporting mobile GeForce RTX 40 GPUs have just begun shipping and, perhaps unsurprisingly, they're going to cost you an arm and a leg. The MSI GT77 and Razer Blade 16 each with GeForce RTX 4090 graphics, for example, are launching for $5300 and $4300 USD, respectively. Prices are expected to drop over time, but at least one manufacturer wants to beat everyone to the punch sooner rather than later.
Eluktronics has announced that its 16-inch Mech-16 GP and 17-inch Mech-17 GP2 will begin shipping this month with GeForce RTX 4070, 4080 and 4090 options for $2000, $2500, and $3000 USD, respectively. These prices are significantly less than from competing laptop makers offering similar Core i9-13900HX CPU and mobile GeForce 40 configurations. When considering that the mobile GeForce 40 series launched only just a couple of weeks ago, these lower prices should instantly catch the attention of most enthusiasts.
The strategy, according to Eluktronics, is to attract as many new customers as possible and to eat a bigger piece of the market pie from other popular laptop makers.
In order to reach such low prices, however, the two Mech models must be configured without any SSD, RAM, or OS. Users must therefore supply their own or configure with the appropriate modules. The underlying Mech model designs are similar to the Schenker XMG Neo 16 E23 and Neo 17 E23 but with minor exterior changes.
