Manufacturer GMKTec is currently shipping its latest KD3 portable monitor for $40 USD off after applying the coupon code '$40OFF-NBC-KD3' at checkout. The 15.6-inch FHD KD3 follows on the footsteps of the 14-inch 4K KD2 and 15.6-inch 4K KD1.
GMKTec recently sent us a sample for our impressions. After spending a couple of weeks with the monitor, we can safely say that the KD3 is a budget display with a couple of noteworthy features. The integrated stand, for example, is very firm at all angles up to its maximum of 90 degrees for a much easier time balancing when compared to the finicky folio stands of other inexpensive portable monitors like the Auzai ME16Z01 or C-Force CF011S. It's also very lightweight at just 914 g since the display has no glass protection or included folio case.
Unfortunately, the lack of any glass or a removable cover lead to the main drawbacks of the monitor. The non-touchscreen display is easy to damage and smudge especially if in a bag with other items. We recommend investing in a 15.6-inch laptop carrying case to avoid damaging the screen when traveling.
Secondly, colors are limited to just 44 percent of sRGB compared to >95 percent sRGB on the pricier KD2 or KD1. Both brightness and contrast are inferior on the KD3 as well as shown by the table below. This is definitely a monitor more fit for web browsing or word processing where deep colors are not required.
For a sale price of $179 USD, however, the no-frills KD3 is one of the least expensive 15.6-inch portable monitors you can find.
