Early Necromunda: Hired Gun footage shows off fast-paced Doom Eternal-esque action
Streum On, developers of the cult classic EYE: Divine Cybermancy, are set to launch a new shooter, Necromunda: Hired Gun, set in the Warhammer 40K universe. Hired Gun launches on June 1st and reviews aren't officially out yet.
However, Youtuber The Resident Gamer appears to have gotten hold of a playable build and showcased over 30 minutes of Hired Gun gameplay. This is a considerably longer take than the 3-minute gameplay video publisher Focus Home Interactive released earlier this month, and appears to be the Xbox Series X version of the game.
The kinetic gameplay, heavy metal background music, double jump, and "autosanguine" - a feature that allows you to regenerate health by attacking enemies, all call to mind id's Doom Eternal. Later sections of the gameplay video show that Necromunda features a hub area - Martyr's End where the player gets to interact with NPCs and pick up missions.
The Warhammer franchise has had something of a video game resurgence over the past few years, with Creative Assembly, in particular, churning out three Total War: Warhammer games. Warhammer RPGs and FPS titles have been thin on the ground, however, with the exception of Space Hulk: Deathwing, the Vermintide coop games, and 2011's Warhammer: Space Marine. From initial gameplay, Hired Gun seems to be a great addition to the franchise. Its success could mean more Warhammer FPS titles to come.
