EarFun Air Pro 4+ wireless earbuds review: Solid sound, ANC, and some quirks on a budget

Customizability paired with punchy sound.

The Air Pro 4+ are capable of delivering a great music listening experience thanks to the support for high quality codecs. If you have a compatible device and subscription service, these wireless earbuds are very good value.

Verdict - Everything you’d want from good TWS earbuds, but with some quirks

The market is flooded with budget true wireless earbuds but not all of them offer a solid balance between features, sound quality, and value. At $100, the EarFun Air Pro 4+ are not cheap but considering what they offer, that price tag can be justified. The out of the box sound is good and with some tuning, it can be perfected. The noise canceling works great, the battery life is solid, and the dual-device connection capabilities are the cherry on top.

There are some compromises like rare audio issues when connected to two devices and some random pausing of music. Most of these will be either subjective (as explained below) or addressable with software updates. There have been three updates during our three weeks of testing so it seems like EarFun is actively looking into bug fixes.

If EarFun can fix these random, possibly isolated issues, the Air Pro 4+ are an easy recommendation, and great value regardless.

Pros

+ strong ANC
+ LDAC, aptX Lossless support
+ dual-device connectivity
+ customizable EQs

Cons

- some audio issues with dual-device connections
- in-ear detection gets triggered randomly sometimes

Price and availability

The EarFun Air Pro 4+ wireless earbuds are currently priced at $75 on Amazon and $100 on the EarFun website, but with a coupon code, they can be purchased for $75. They are only offered in a single black color variant which could be a deal breaker for those who prefer white or different colored audio accessories.

A simple and straightforward unboxing experience, the EarFun Air Pro 4+ come with the compact charging case, different sized ear plugs, and a small USB Type-C charging cable. It’s a bonus that EarFun packs extra-small and extra-large ear plug pairs along with small, medium, and large ones.

Design and comfort

The wireless earbuds are 2025 Red Dot Design Award Winners and EarFun is proud of that accolade, with a badge on the front of the box. As for the earbuds, they look quite standard and like a few other in-ear style earbuds with a stem, like the ones from Soundcore and Baseus. The case is quite small which makes it very easy to carry in your pocket, but because of the majority of the front being part of the lid, it’s a little difficult to open with one hand. There is a satisfactory click when shutting the lid and a bright LED light to indicate battery level and connection status.

The earbuds themselves have touch controls on the top of the stem and they work well. With the extra-small ear plugs, I was able to achieve a snug fit without having them constantly pop out. Some people struggle to keep in-ear style earbuds fixed in place (including me) and while the issue was rare with the EarFun Air Pro 4+ for me, it may be a different experience for others. Once in place, they are light and comfortable enough to not bother the ears when worn for extended periods.

Performance and features

Starting with the pairing experience, the EarFun Air Pro 4+ support Google Fast Pair so opening the case or pressing with button at the bottom with the case opened shows a pop up for connecting on the nearby Android phone. From there, after pairing, it suggests downloading the app and the overall experience is seamless. We recommend updating to the latest firmware immediately.

In their stock settings with the company tuned EQ, the sound is fairly balanced with a clear differentiation between the different frequencies. We found that the ‘Rock’ preset is slightly louder without any loss in frequency differentiation, and suited for most genres. You can set custom curves as well and tweak the preset equalizer profiles, which is always a plus. Note that some of the thump is lost when in ‘Normal’ and ‘Ambient Sound’ modes, compared to ‘Noise Cancelling.’

The earbuds also support LDAC and aptX Lossless, and EarFun states this expands the frequency response range to 20 Hz - 40 kHz. With LDAC turned on and a supported phone (OnePlus Nord CE4), the sound stage did expand a bit compared to AAC. It sounded even better, but only slightly, than aptX Adaptive, as it allowed switching the bit rate manually to 990 kbps/909 kbps. Turning on LDAC disables dual device connection and low latency mode which is typical with wireless earbuds and headphones.

Now while the LDAC and aptX experience worked seamlessly with the Nord CE4, we couldn’t get it working with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The phone does support LDAC, but the Developer Options didn’t allow us to turn on ‘HD Audio’ and switch codecs manually, despite the setting being enabled within the EarFun app. That being said, it does seem like a Pixel issue rather than an Air Pro 4+ issue since, while the 'HD Audio' option did become available when using the Baseus Inspire XC1, there was major stuttering when 990 kbps was manually enabled.

Speaking of issues, when connected to two devices, receiving notifications on one sometimes causes audio playing from the other to stutter. An issue that was absent when using the Baseus Inspire XP1 or Inspire XC1 in the same setting. Furthermore, wearing a beanie would sometimes trigger the touch controls and randomly pause audio. This was quite random, making it hard to determine if it was related to the in-ear detection being inaccurately triggered or just the touch controls being activated unintentionally. EarFun says the in-ear detection can sometimes get triggered when the earbuds don’t have a secure fit.

The noise canceling on the EarFun Air Pro 4+ works well and proved to be of great use during a long flight packed with kids. It muted all those sounds greatly and having music playing on top made it a non-issue. Coming to battery life, while at home with ANC turned off, the earbuds comfortably lasted the full work day with plenty of battery to spare by the evening. Even with ANC on, getting through a work day was no issue. The compact case is capable of charging the earbuds fully, three to four times, making battery life nothing to worry about.
