Dyson Zone: Price and launch window of elaborate over-ear headphones confirmed

Dyson has provided more details about the Zone, a pair of air-purifying headphones that debuted in March. Initially, Dyson promoted the Zone's air-purifying qualities over its capabilities as a pair of headphones, despite the limited and perhaps outdated thinking that went into its design. Now, the Dyson Zone's audio capabilities are front and centre, with its air purification properties minimised in the company's latest press release.

According to Dyson, its first headphones offer up to 50 hours of battery life, but a mere 4 hours with its air purifier attached. In short, the air purifier filters outside air and then blows it towards your mouth and nose. The Dyson Zone does not purify any air you exhale though, and is only designed to tackle air pollution. The Dyson Zone also supports active noise cancellation via 11 microphones that can reduce background noise by up to 38 dB.

Purportedly, the headphones' 40 mm drivers offer 'exceptional immersive listening experience' sound too, although one should reasonably expect that from a pair of headphones that cost US$949 or £749 in the UK. For reference, Expert Reviews described the audio quality with an early unit as 'pretty good', not exceptional. Dyson now expects to launch the Dyson Zone next month in China but not until March in other markets, including the UK, US and Singapore, among others.
