The LG V30 has made its way over to DxOMark. The device manages a rack up a total score of 82, with an underwhelming score of 73 in the video department making us leery of the entire evaluation criterion.

DxOMark is one of the major photography evaluation outlets out there. There have been calls for a review of the LG V30 for a while now, and the device has finally made its way over to the platform.

The V30 was meant to be a return to form for LG, after the commercial failure that was the G6. While it's an impressive looking device, it has received some flak for its display, a common ground it shares with the Pixel 2 XL.

According to the DxOMark review, the device does well in the still photography department. It records a score of 87, which is on par with devices like the HTC U11 and the last-gen iPhone 7, but still worse than devices like the Pixel 2 or Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Surprisingly, it does much worse in the video category, as it manages to rack up a meager score of 73. Quite interesting, considering the device has been marketed and hailed as one of the best video-centric offerings on the market.

The review cites issues with noise, texture, zoom, and bokeh, as the phone's most significant issues in still photography, while texture and autofocus are the major talking points on the video side of the fence.

We have our misgivings about the final score of this review—DxOMark's criterion looks unbalanced. It, for example, fails to award the device extra marks for having a capable wide angle lens, and docks points for its poor bokeh, which makes just about no sense.

DxOMark benchmarks are far from gospel, in any case. You'd do well to check out reviews by other outlets if you plan on getting one.
