Dell to release a new XPS 15 model with a 4K OLED panel in March
It seems that “OLED” will be a major keyword for laptop OEMs this year. There have been numerous announcements at CES 2019 in regard to this screen technology. HP will include a 60 Hz AMOLED HDR panel with a refreshed Spectre x360 15 and Lenovo is going to update its Yoga 730 with a new OLED panel (and a new name: Yoga C730). Razer had two Blade 15 prototypes on show at CES, one with a 240 Hz screen and one with a 4K OLED panel. It seems hardly surprising that Dell will update its wildly popular XPS 15 device with such technology.
According to Dell’s press release, the refreshed XPS 15 will offer “OLED with HDR, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 100,000:1 contrast ratio.” An improved XPS 15 with even better colors, incredible blacks, and probably lighter and slimmer because of the presence of an OLED display sounds like it could be a sure-fire crowd-pleaser. It remains to be seen how Dell will deal with the extra power required by OLED panels.
It has been suggested that work on new XPS 15 OLED models could be the reason why Dell hasn’t fully dealt with the BIOS issues of the current version, the XPS 15 9570. The flagship laptop should start appearing with OLED panel options in March, with 240 Hz panels for the Alienware m15 devices also being offered from April onwards.
