Decathlon reveals new BTWIN LD 940 E smart electric bike
Decathlon has unveiled the BTWIN LD 940 E bike at an event launching the company’s rebrand. Compared to the older LD 920 E, launched in the EU last September, the new step-through electric bicycle has several changes and upgrades. These include the simplified open frame, which makes it easier to mount your e-bike.
The LD 940 E bicycle has an enhanced smart system and display. These show you real-time information like your speed and allow you to connect your phone for app-based features like viewing the GPS location of your e-bike. While this is similar to the solution on the LD 920 E, Decathlon suggests there are improvements relating to journey statistics. Another change is adding a suspension seat post to make your ride more comfortable. As for the LD 920 E, the LD 940 E is powered by a 250W mid-mounted motor from Owuru, with up to 600W power and 65 Nm torque. Plus, the same 702 Wh battery is used for up to 150 km (~93 miles) when riding in Economy mode.
Other features include a suspension fork with 30 mm travel, 28-inch Vittoria e-Radonneur tires and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. There are also accessories like a rear luggage rack, mudguards and integrated lighting at the front and rear. Given the upgrades compared to the LD 920 E, the Decathlon BTWIN LD 940 E bike will likely be more expensive; the older e-bike retails for €2,999/£3,200. According to Transition Velo, a small number of units will go on sale in Belgium at the end of the year before a wider launch early in 2025.
