DJI Power 1.8kW Super Fast Charger launched with support for simultaneous car and solar charging

Just a few weeks after announcing the 1kW Super Fast Car Charger that lets owners fast charge the DJI Power 1000 power station using their cars, DJI has announced an even faster charger for the power station. The DJI Power 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger provides both car and solar fast charging, unlike the 1kW Super Fast Car Charger which only provides fast charging when connected to a car's battery. Also, the new charger only works with the DJI Power 1000 just like the 1kW super fast charger.

The DJI Power 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger connects to a car's battery and draws excess power generated by the car's alternator but at 600W. However, it can also be simultaneously connected to a 1200W max. solar panel setup for dual charging, although with a caveat.

DJI says to achieve the maximum 1800W charging, the Power 1000 portable station must be connected to a DJI Power Expansion Battery 2000 which has a 2048Wh capacity. For those who don't know, the DJI Power 1000 can be connected to up to five expansion batteries for a total battery capacity of 11,264Wh.

When connected to a Power 1000 and Power Expansion Battery 2000, DJI says the Power 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger can reach 1024Wh of power during a 40-minute drive. The smaller 1kW Super Fast Car Charger takes about 78 minutes to fully charge just the Power 1000 power station.

The DJI Power 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger isn't only for car use but can also be used at home but just with solar panels. Simply connect the panels to its XT90 port to charge at up to 1200W. However, DJI says that by expanding the XT90 port to an MC4 connector by purchasing the DJI Power 1.8kW Super Fast Charger XT90 to MC4 Adapter Cable, users can get an additional 600W of solar input for a total of 1800W.

DJI is selling the 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger for $319, which is just $20 more than the 1kW fast charger. It is available to buy now on DJI's online store.

If you are wondering which to buy, it depends on your needs. If you don't have solar panels then the 1kW Super Fast Charger is the one to get since you can charge the Power 1000 at up to 1000W with your car instead of just 600W with the 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger.

However, for those who have solar panels such as an RV solar panel kit, then the 1.8kW charger is the better purchase since you can simultaneously charge with the car and the solar panels on the roof.
