A new batch of images have revealed fresh details about DJI's upcoming Mini 5 Pro. For context, the new images have arrived less than a fortnight after apparent retail packaging and a promotional image surfaced online of the same drone.
Apparently a retail unit rather than a prototype, the images embedded throughout match the overall design shown in the leaked promotional image on which we reported at the start of August. While full technical specifications have yet to surface, the new images emphasise that the Mini 5 Pro will surpass its predecessor (curr. $1,008 on Amazon) with a 1-inch type camera sporting a 24 mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.8 aperture.
Based on previous rumours, the Mini 5 Pro has a large enough sensor to provide a 2x in-sensor crop to create 48 mm images. Moreover, the new images highlight that the drone will utilise LiDAR to aid in omnidirectional obstacle sensing. Meanwhile, the integrated gimbal should be capable of rotating up to 220-330° for the purposes of taking vertical footage.
The new images also indicate that the Mini 5 Pro will be C0 certified. Therefore, the drone will be one of the first to pack a 1-inch camera sensor into an overall package that weighs less than 250 g. Another notable change from the Mini 4 Pro is the removal of its one-time-use propeller screws. According to Jasper Ellens, these will be replaced by a new 'tap-and-twist' system to simplify changing propellers. Currently, DJI is believed to be targeting a September 2025 release; no specific launch date has emerged yet, though.
