Sandfall Interactive’s debut title, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has surpassed 500,000 units sold across the world, which is a major milestone for the studio. The turn-based RPG was launched on April 24, and it’s out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and is also available via Xbox Game Pass.
Following the achievement, the studio expressed gratitude on social media, “A milestone for us, reached sooner than we'd ever imagined. Thank you all." Despite competing with the unexpected release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Clair Obscur has managed to garner the attention of the players.
At the time of writing, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has 61,787 concurrent players, as per Steam DB. The game managed to get over 50,000 players within a few hours of its release, and this number peaked at 71,225 players. The game is currently ranked second on the ‘Trending Games’ chart, superseded only by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
As far as the critical response is concerned, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has earned outstanding reviews, scoring 92 on Metacritic and 91 on OpenCritic, making it the highest-rated game of the year so far. IGN awarded it a 9/10, calling it a “modern RPG classic” and comparing it to the likes of Final Fantasy.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set in a post-apocalyptic world inspired by Belle Époque France. The game follows the Expeditioners on a mission to defeat the Paintress, a being who annually paints a number dictating which age group will vanish. With the latest number being 33, the stakes are higher than ever.
