Shadowdrop creates hype: Why over 180,000 players are diving into this new RPG remaster

Originally released in September 2007, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is still hailed by many as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Nearly two decades later, players can once again step into the empire of Cyrodiil to face off against the deadly Daedra. Rebuilt with Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced by modern features like Ray Tracing, DLSS and dynamic lighting, the game now boasts a stunning visual overhaul. Gameplay has also been significantly updated – combat feels more impactful, the leveling system has been refined and a sprint feature has finally been added.
Reddit between enthusiasm and criticism
The remaster of Oblivion has generated a wave of enthusiasm on Reddit, particularly in subreddits like r/PS5. Fans are celebrating not only the surprise launch and impressive technical upgrades, but also the strong sense of nostalgia. Despite the visual overhaul, the game manages to preserve much of its original charm – thanks in part to the return of the classic voice cast. Still, not everything is perfect. Even players with high-end PCs are reporting issues like FPS drops, stuttering and crashes. On top of that, the $55 price tag has raised eyebrows.
Strong launch despite early issues
Despite its steep price and a few technical hiccups, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered stands out as a solid revival of the beloved RPG classic. The positive response on Reddit mirrors its strong player engagement – the game hit a peak of 182,289 concurrent players shortly after launch. It also holds the top spot in both the "Trending Games" and "Popular Releases" categories on SteamDB. Whether Bethesda and Virtuos can smooth out the remaining technical issues remains to be seen.
