Minisforum is set to return to its Mobile on Desktop (MoDT) segment with a new offering. To recap, the company introduced the BD770i in late 2023 sporting a Ryzen 7 7745HX processor, dual-channel DDR5 RAM and a pair of PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots. While it then introduced the BD790i with the more powerful Ryzen 9 7945HX (curr. $539 on Amazon), this processor comes from the same Dragon Range series as the Ryzen 7 7745HX.
Fast forward to 2025, and PC Watch has spotted Minisforum showcasing a new MoDT motherboard during Japan IT Week in Tokyo. Pictured below, the DeskMini F1FGM utilises the Ryzen 9 9955HX from AMD's latest Fire Range series. Leveraging 16 Zen 5 CPU cores that can reach 5.4 GHz, the Ryzen 9 9955HX has a 55-75 W configurable thermal design power (TDP) by default and is built on a 4 nm FinFET process to maximise energy efficiency.
According to PC Watch, Minisforum plans to push the Ryzen 9 9955HX much further to 160 W for what is claimed to be desktop 'comparable' performance. To achieve this high TDP, Minisforum has installed a custom aluminium and copper heat spreader. Although a mobile processor, the Ryzen 9 9955HX will be offered inside the DeskMini F1FGM with four banks of DDR5 UDIMM RAM. Please note that the Ryzen 9 9955HX will not be user-replaceable.
Elsewhere, the DeskMini F1FGM will contain PCIe 4.0 x16 and PCIe 5.0 x16 expansion ports too, as well as space for five SSDs split between 2x SATA 3.0, 2x M.2 2280 Gen 4 and 1x M.2 2280 Gen 5 slots. Pricing and availability remain unknown for now. However, PC Watch indicates that the DeskMini F1FGM should officially land 'around the second half of 2025'.
