Apple gamers will soon be able to conquer history on the go.
Sid Meier's Civilization VII Arcade Edition is coming to Apple Arcade on February 5. This is a mobile-centered version of the 4X strategy game released February 11, 2025. It builds on the classic Civilization formula of exploring a game map, building new cities, engaging in diplomacy with other civilizations, conquering rivals, and discovering new technologies to create a thriving civilization.
Per the game's store page, "this is the authentic Civilization VII base game experience," although there seem to be quite a few caveats.
Firstly, multiplayer will not be available at launch. Additionally, this version of the game will not receive DLC or updates that will come to the mainline version. This version of Civ VII uses touch controls, but controllers and mouse input are supported.
The Arcade Edition will also be somewhat prohibitive in terms of hardware. It requires a device with at least Apple's A17 Pro, meaning that gamers will need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Mini 7, or newer device to play. Additionally, larger maps (Large and Huge, per in-game settings) will require at least 8 GB of RAM or more (though this shouldn't be a problem as any device with an A17 Pro or newer will have at least 8 GB of RAM). This version will require 3.5 GB of storage space as well.
