Cigent's latest SSDs come with AI-powered protection against ransomware attacks
The latest SSD generation from Cigent is even more secure thanks to the integration of hardware-based machine learning algorithms that prevent ransomware and remote attacks. With the aid of an AI microprocessor included on the storage device itself, the Secure SSD+ from Cigent detects malicious data tampering patterns and users can fine tune the detection algorithms in order to avoid false positive cases.
Cigent also offers a Data Defense application that works in tandem with the new Secure SSD+ solutions to provide even more security features, including:
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) requiring PIN code, fingerprint, facial recognition and authenticator app sync when threats are detected
- Invisible storage partitions protected by non-recoverable key and MFA
- Drive-wide read-only mode
- Trusted user list for file sharing
- SSD firmware that automatically encrypts files if the Data Defense application is disabled
- Data theft tracking when insiders boot off a USB stick
In case the SSD itself is stolen and paired with another system that runs a different OS, the SSD firmware will prevent any form of data tampering. For now, the SSDs only support Windows and need to be set as the primary OS drive. Linux support should be available soon. Cigent warns that some files might still get compromised, but the ML algorithms are continuously improved to mitigate such probabilities.
Capacity details have not yet been revealed, yet Cigent mentions that the drives come with double-sided memory chip arrays, so laptop users might not be able to use them. More info on availability and pricing is expected to be revealed in May.
