Deal | Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SSD drops to new all-time low on Amazon
Some tech enthusiasts might think that traditional 2.5-inch SATA SSDs are obsolete, especially since blazing-fast PCIe 4.0 solid-state drives have become significantly cheaper over the past months. Nevertheless, products like the Samsung 870 QVO are still a good choice for users who need up to 8TB of additional storage capacity and have no M.2 slot available.
Fittingly, the top-end version of the aforementioned Samsung 870 QVO has now been put on sale at Amazon, which is where the 8TB SSD can now be ordered for US$433 including free shipping. This 2.5-inch SATA drive originally carried an official price tag of more than US$900 upon its launch back in 2020, and in relation to the already discounted 90-day median price, this SSD deal provides an additional discount of 12 percent and results in Amazon's lowest price ever for the Samsung 870 QVO according to Camelcamelcamel's price history.
From a technical perspective, the Samsung 870 QVO is equipped with QLC NAND whose endurance is rated at a whopping 2,880 TBW. Furthermore, the 8TB SSD can hit sequential read and write speeds of up to 560 and 530 MB/s, respectively, which should be quick enough for many use cases as long as it is used as a secondary drive. Last but not least, this product is covered by a three-year limited manufacturer warranty, which is rather short considering that some of the closest competitors usually offer a five-year warranty. Overall, a price of 5.4 cents per gigabyte is nothing to write home about these days, but it is a decent deal for everyone who needs 8TB of capacity in a 2.5-inch format.
