Chimera BMX electric bike with 5,000 W motor launches this August
The Chimera BMX electric bike will launch this summer. The throttle demand bike has a 5,000 W inrunner motor that can assist you at speeds up to 35 mph (~56 kph), accelerating from 0 to 30 mph (~48 kph) in 4.5 seconds. You can pedal the bike or use the throttle to unleash the engine's power. The e-bike is relatively light, weighing 34 lbs (~15.4 kg); a 24-in brushed titanium frame helps to keep the bike lightweight, weighing 9.8 lbs (~4.4 kg).
Chimera claims its product has the most impressive power-to-weight ratio on the market. Plus, according to the company, you can service the entire motor with a single Allen wrench. Chimera describes the bike's patented system as high-drive, with a unique hand-wound motor and waterproof design.
The bike is equipped with an ASI BAC855 controller, which you can command via an accompanying app. Subject to supply chains, the BMX bike is expected to have Odyssey Path Pro tires and Magura MT5 brakes.
You can sign-up to the Chimera mailing list for early access and limited edition pricing, though it does not disclose further details. The Chimera BMX e-bike is expected to launch via Indiegogo this August; the full technical specification of the bike, including the battery size and charging capability, are expected to be revealed at this time.
