Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has multiple big projects in the pipeline and while the next major title, Witcher 4, is not coming out till 2027, a completely new IP is being worked on for the distant future. Project Hadar is looking for someone with experience in action RPGs and melee combat.

CD Projekt Red has multiple projects in the pipeline including The Witcher 4, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and a new IP codenamed Project Hadar. Very little is known about the new IP but it was expected that the company will delve into its RPG roots for this one. Now, it looks like that is true and the new game will include, or rely heavily on, melee combat.

First noticed by Tech4gamers, a job posting for a Senior Gameplay Designer at CD Projekt Red is live and it is looking for someone to work on Project Hadar. One of the qualifications for the role state, “At least 5+ years of professional experience in a similar role, preferably in RPG/Action titles with melee-oriented combat.” Melee combat includes hand-to-hand or weapons like swords, staffs, clubs, axes, etc.

That being said, it is still unclear what the setting for the upcoming game will be, whether it will be set in a dystopian future like Cyberpunk 2077 or the medieval era like the Witcher games, or something completely different.

Project Hadar was first announced back in 2022 when CD Projekt Red revealed what it has in the pipeline. At the time, it was working on Project Sirius, set in the Witcher universe. A new Witcher trilogy, including Witcher 4, was underway. The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which at the time was called Project Orion but is now being referred to as Cyberpunk 2 is being worked on by part of the team. And finally, Project Hadar was also announced as a new IP.

The job listing mentions that Project Hadar is still in its early days and the universe is being built from the ground up. It is going to be a long while till we get to see any kind of footage or official reveal for the game. Nonetheless, The Witcher 4 is making progress and is expected to be ready by 2027.
