Boox Palma 3 launched with with 6.13-inch E Ink display, stylus support and Android 16

Onyx Boox has updated its mobile e-reader series with the Boox Palma 3. The device retains the smartphone-like dimensions of previous models while introducing material and functional hardware changes.

The Boox Palma 3 features a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with a resolution of 824 by 1648 pixels. The exterior chassis has transitioned from plastic to an anodized aluminum frame. It is powered by an octa-core processor and 6GB of RAM. For the software, it’s running Android 16, allowing users to install applications directly from the Google Play Store.

A key addition to the Palma 3 is active stylus support, enabling users to write and annotate directly on the display. The device is also equipped with a 16MP rear camera and LED flash designed for document scanning, dual microphones for speech-to-text transcription, and a 3,950mAh battery. Buyers will be able to get it in black or white when it does come out for $320, a full $60 cheaper than the Boox Palma 2 Pro. Boox is selling the stylus separately, however, and it will cost you an extra $46.

In addition to the pocket-sized format, Boox released the Note Air6 C for users requiring a larger workspace. The 10.3-inch tablet uses a Kaleido 3-color E Ink panel capable of displaying 4,096 colors. It also runs on Android 16 and features a 2.9 GHz processor.

Boox is also preparing to release the Picco, an alternative device targeting a highly compact footprint. Showcased at the IFA electronics trade show, the Picco uses a 3.97-inch touchscreen alongside physical page-turn buttons. Unlike the Palma 3 and Note Air6 C, the Picco operates on a lightweight Linux-based operating system focused strictly on core reading functions. The device relies on a microSD card for local file storage and is scheduled for a global release in November 2026.
