Toshiba intros eco-friendly portable hard drive

Prominent and well-respected brand Toshiba has released an updated version of its Canvio Ready lineup of portable 2.5-inch hard drives. The hard drive is available in capacities of up to 4 TB and offers USB 3.2 Gen 1 performance.

The update is quite minimal but might be essential for some people, especially those who care a lot about the environment. To be more specific, Toshiba now manufactures the Canvio Ready portable hard drive's top cover with 65% recycled material. The overall form factor of the drive remains the same, however. 

As mentioned earlier, the USB-powered external hard drive continues to feature a USB 3.2 Gen 1 micro-B port, allowing for transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps. Thankfully, a USB Type-A to Micro-B cable continues to be offered in the package.

As for dimensions, the portable hard drive measures in at around 78 x 109 x 14 mm, or roughly 3 x 4.3 x 0.55 inches. Like most portable hard drives, the Canvio Ready also utilizes ramp loading for improved shock resistance.

Toshiba has revealed that the 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB Canvio Ready hard drives will be available starting the fourth quarter of this year, which we're already well into. Exact pricing details, however, have not yet been shared. For context, the current-gen Toshiba Canvio Ready 4 TB hard drive is available for around $188 on Amazon.
