Banana Pi's latest alternative to the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W has now arrived, shortly after its introduction late last month. To recap, the company outlined that the BPI-M4 Zero would utilise the Allwinner H618, a low-powered chipset equipped with four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores and a Mali-G31 GPU. Also, the 65 x 30 mm features the following I/O
- 1x 3-pin debug UART (3.3V) header
- 1x 24-pin Misc FPC (100 Mbps Ethernet, USB 2.0 etc.)
- 1x 40-pin GPIO header (Raspberry Pi compatible)
- 1x Mini HDMI 2.0a (4K/60 FPS)
- 1x MicroSD card slot
- 2x USB 2.0 Type-C port (1x OTG port)
Additionally, the BPI-M4 Zero offers Bluetooth 4.2 and WiFi 5 connectivity through an onboard module, plus LPDDR4 RAM and eMMC flash storage. Moreover, Banana Pi states that it intends to offer an Ubuntu Desktop image for the BPI-M4 Zero, which it will publish on the device's wiki. As CNX Software notes, the similarities between the BPI-M4 Zero and Orange Pi Zero 2W mean that the latter's OS images should work on the former, too.
The BPI-M4 Zero is available to order now for $28.90 with 8 GB of eMMC flash storage and 2 GB of RAM. Please note that this price excludes shipping and taxes. By contrast, the Orange Pi Zero 2W can be purchased for $26.99, with the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W coming it at $0.01 cheaper at $26.98. Please see Banana Pi's wiki for more information.
