Asus has released a special edition of its ROG Azoth Extreme mechanical keyboard in China. The new version features a shiny transparent design, distinguishing it from other models in the series. It also comes with an OLED touchscreen and supports 8K polling and Snap Tap mode.

The Asus ROG Night Demon Extreme SE is a new special edition mechanical keyboard that has been launched in China. The model corresponds to the ROG Azoth Extreme (curr: $399.99 at Amazon) sold in other regions, with the "Night Demon" (machine translated) name used locally in China. The SE variant introduces a fully transparent design that sets it apart from the standard version.

A clear new look for Asus's premium mechanical keyboard

The Asus ROG Night Demon Extreme SE shares most of its features with the ROG Azoth Extreme, with the main difference being its fresh new design. It still comes with an all-metal chassis, but now finished in a shiny space silver. Asus has also added transparent PC keycaps, with the main keys featuring PBT pudding keycaps, while the rest are fully transparent. This design highlights the RGB lighting, making the ROG Night Demon Extreme SE a striking and visually unique board.

The keyboard is available with ROG NX Snow linear switches or ROG NX Storm clicky switches, both featuring custom transparent shells as well. That said, while it’s visually impressive, the transparent keycaps can be slippery and may show oil prints more easily than traditional keycaps.

Premium design and low-latency performance

Like the ROG Azoth Extreme, the special edition features a compact 75% layout and comes with an included palm rest. The chassis is made from CNC-machined aluminum and features a gasket mount, FR4 positioning plate, and three dampening layers for a cushioned feel and better acoustics. Users can even adjust the tactile feedback to fine-tune it for typing or gaming.

Speaking of which, the keyboard delivers a true 8,000 Hz polling rate over both wired and wireless modes with the included ROG Polling Rate Booster, making it ideal for competitive gamers who demand nearly instant input responses. It also supports Speed Tap for more responsive counter-strafing in shooters. However, since it's a standard mechanical keyboard, there’s no rapid trigger or adjustable actuation features. Asus recently released an Azoth variant with Hall effect switches, which appears to be called the ROG Night Demon 98 HE in China.

Another big highlight is the built-in OLED touchscreen, which can show everything from keyboard status to system info like CPU temps. Additionally, a multifunctional knob makes it easy to cycle through settings or control media playback on the fly. Other features include a laser-engraved nameplate, magnetic feet for height adjustments, and a wrist rest with a transparent PC base.

Price and availability

Right now, the Asus ROG Night Demon Extreme SE is only available in China, priced at CNY 3,599 (around ~$505). That puts it right in line with the ROG Azoth Extreme’s prices in the US. There’s no word on a global launch yet, but it could be on the way, as Asus recently refreshed the Azoth keyboard lineup in the US.
