The 15-inch Zephyrus S GX531 will launch in late September with the 17-inch ROG GL704 Scar II to follow a few days later. The new Zephyrus will be thinner and leaner than the GX501 at just $1900 compared to almost $3000 when the GX501 launched last year.

Announced at Gamescom just a week prior, the 15.6-inch Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX531 and 17.3-inch ROG GL704 Scar II are now available for pre-order with a planned ship date in late September.

The Zephyrus S GX531 directly succeeds last year's Zephyrus GX501 with a brand new narrow-bezel design and an even thinner profile for improved portability. The upfront keyboard returns along with the dynamic rear exhaust when opening the lid, but Thunderbolt 3 has seemingly been dropped. Graphics options will go up to the GTX 1070 Max-Q with no word yet on a GTX 1080 Max-Q version. Note that the system will carry the same 144 Hz AUO display options as on the GL504 series. The system will cost a reasonable $1900 USD on Amazon when it launches on September 21st compared to the much steeper launch price of $2700 for the last generation GX501. See our preview on the GX531 for more details on the new model.

Lastly, the GL704 is essentially the 17-inch version of the recently launched GL504 series. It shares the same design language and it is set to be the first 17-inch gaming laptop with narrow bezels. Asus says it worked closely with AU Optronics in order to develop a 17-inch 144 Hz IPS panel compatible with a narrow bezel design. Thus, there are no other 17-inch gaming laptops with narrow bezels at the time of writing. It's very likely that the technology will eventually be incorporated onto Asus' higher-end ROG G7xx series. The system will launch on September 24th for a starting price of $1700 USD with GTX 1060 graphics on Amazon. See our preview on the GL704 for more details on the new model.
