Aside from the dot-matrix display, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is a rather good notebook. It manages thermals well, the fan noise isn’t extreme and the Mux Switch is a great feature that we’re glad to see isn’t exclusive to this notebook. The battery life and fast charging is great especially here in South Africa where the electricity situation is constantly changing. Even the price isn’t overly bad although again, that dot-matrix display isn’t something we feel is necessary and to our mind, only serves to inflate the price. With that having been said, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is a well appointed gaming notebook that performs incredibly well in gaming. You could also throw some video, audio and photo editing at this notebook but we’d recommend an external display as even with a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio, the display is on the small side for that use case. Our conclusion then is that if you’re a fan of smaller notebooks (and even if you aren’t), the ROG Zephyrus G14 is well worth a look.

They say that lightning doesn’t strike twice. With the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 2022, though, I would be willing to say that the adage would suit it, were it not for the odd protrusions that are preventing it from fitting into the mould. Firstly, I like the fact that, despite transitioning it to an AMD Advantage Edition machine, the battery life of the G14 2022 is nearly identical to what its predecessor was capable of. I say nearly, but honestly, that is just me nitpicking at the little imperfections. Second, the performance of the Radeon RX 6800S is, once again, very impressive and not what I had initially expected. The only issue I have with the G14 2022, then, is the weird blanking out of the display that I mentioned earlier that would greet first-time users of the laptop. Again, it’s not an unfixable issue, but it is nevertheless still an annoying one. In any case, at RM9999, the G14 2022 is also one of the more “affordable” 14-inch gaming laptops on the market, which is truly a rarity in this day and age.

The Asus ROG G14 2022 is a solid recommendation for anyone looking to buy a compact, powerful machine that can transform into a gaming station on demand, and do it with some flair. I wouldn’t recommend G14 2021 users to upgrade to this, as there aren’t enough changes in here to justify a switch from last year’s model. However, if you were planning to buy your first gaming laptop or upgrading from a much older machine, then the new hardware, MUX switch and IR webcam addition make the ROG Zephyrus G14’s 2022 avatar better than ever. At a starting price of Rs 1,46,900 though, the G14 isn’t exactly value-for-money for the performance alone (the exact variant we reviewed is priced at Rs 1,91,990). However, if you can spend the bucks for the quality and aesthetics of an ROG gaming laptop, this pricey affair will be worth it.

ASUS is selling the new Zephyrus G14 at a starting price of Rs 1,46,990, and for the price, the laptop comes equipped with the Ryzen 7 6800HS and the Radeon RX 6700S. Unsurprisingly, the laptop is a pricey affair and you’ll have to shell out even more bucks if you want to opt for the Radeon RX 6800S variant. That said, I would advise against the same as the upgraded GPU will only offer a 5-10% boost in gaming performance, whilst bringing up the price by quite some margin. Regardless, the Zephyrus G14 makes for a good buy and is a solid option for gamers looking for a compact, powerful and good-looking machine.

The 16:10 QHD display along with its high brightness is one of the G14’s key benefits and unique selling points. Moreover, the colours out of the box fit for those who need to do some multimedia design or edits. For the gamers out there, the high refresh rate of 120 Hz is probably one of the selling points for them with the benefit of the quad-speakers for a fully immersive experience. If you're after a compact multi-purpose laptop in the sub $2000 price range, the 2022 ROG Zephyrus G14 is definitely an option to consider. Compared to the previous G14s, this 2022 model offers refined looks and ergonomics, better inputs and ports, superior screen options, and a webcam, as well as more capable hardware with an updated thermal module. However, it should come as no surprise that squeezing powerful specs inside a compact chassis leads to high internal and external temperatures, especially on an AMD-exclusive platform, so make sure to understand what to expect from this notebook before jumping on it.

Needless to say, everything on this laptop is awesome except for selected games that may have a mini stuttering motion issue. There aren't many gaming laptops like it due to the gaming aesthetic design especially the AniMe Matrix on the cover lid. But would I recommend the ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022)? Well, I think that entirely depends on your budget. In Malaysia, the starting price is a staggering RM8499 which is even higher than the predecessor's highest variant by RM800. If you want the best variant, it's RM9999! You can blame our weak Ringgit currency and the global chip shortage for that.

AMD's Ryzen 9 6900HS proved to be a strong performer overall. In the CPU-centric tests, it wasn’t able to overtake Intel’s latest Alder Lake-based 12th Gen chips in most tests, but keep in mind the 6900HS is a mid-range Ryzen 6000-series processor and its inside a 14” notebook here. Even still, it competes well with the latest laptops on the market, and in its default configuration it does so at lower power levels. AMD's new Radeon RX 6800S also competes well, typically trading blows with GeForce RTX 3070 / RTX 3060 mobile-equipped systems. Perhaps the unsung hero of the performance story is the Radeon 680M iGPU. In a system like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, the discrete GPU will be put to use in gaming and heavy workloads, so the Radeon 680M will only be tasked with lighter-duty stuff. But as our tests showed on the previous page, the Radeon 680M is very powerful for an integrated GPU. It blew Intel’s Xe graphics out of the water and smoked the desktop Vega-based variant in the Ryzen 7 5700G. This bodes extremely well for future thin-and-light laptops that won’t have discrete GPUs.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 G402 is better than its predecessor in a lot of ways as we found in our review for it in the Philippines, though there are trade-offs to its newfound power. It’s certainly going to be more expensive – by how much, we don’t know as of yet. Battery life isn’t as good as last-gen too, which should make potential owners wary of long trips without a chance to top up on juice. That being said, if you’re looking for a visually striking gaming PC that can easily handle titles coming out this year, then the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 G402 should be the laptop for you.

The battery life situation means the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 can’t quite stand side by side with the MacBook Pro. There still isn’t anything that can match Apple’s M1, M1 Pro and M1 Mac laptops for power and stamina combined. However, if you are a gamer and you want a laptop you can carry around with you without giving yourself a hernia, the Asus Zephryus G14 is the best option you have right now. Its Ryzen CPU and Radeon RX GPU combine to deliver a superbly rounded performance and the price undermines both Windows and Apple rivals.

Bottom point, if you’re after a compact multi-purpose laptop in the sub $2000 price range, the 2022 ROG Zephyrus G14 is definitely an option to consider. I’ve debated whether this merits a 4.5 rating or not, and ended up going with 4.5, as to me everything’s right except for the internal temperatures and the exhausts positioned under the screen. I haven’t factored in the screen brightness bug, as I expect it to be figured out in due time. Just make sure you understand its advantages and its drawbacks around the AMD-exclusive platform and what’s going to happen when you ut powerful hardware inside a compact footprint. If you’re not OK with higher thermals or the particularities of the AMD graphics chips, the Blade 14 could be the 14-inch compact alternative to consider, and you’ll most likely get a better-balanced product with 15-inch devices such as the Zephyrus G15 or the Blade 15. This wraps up my initial review on the 2022 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, Looking for your feedback down below, as well as questions, as I’ll follow up this review with a couple more detailed articles in the days and weeks to come.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 is a great choice for a portable daily workhorse that can handle both work and games well with a robust battery life. The AniMe Matrix display also gives users room for personalisation, a feature that speaks to the highly personal nature of laptops nowadays. The 2022 ROG Zephyrus G14 is a great gaming laptop, delivering a potent blend of performance, portability and power efficiency. The bright 16:10 120Hz display makes games and movies look great, while the speakers sound good enough that you won't feel compelled to use headphones. But this new model can't match the incredible battery efficiency of the old Zephyrus G14, perhaps because of its revamped design, upgraded internals or brighter display. Whatever the reason, the 2022 ROG Zephyrus G14 no longer offers the positively outlandish battery life of its predecessor, though its still far longer-lived than most gaming laptops. And while it's now got a webcam, the quality of images it captures is so low that you won't enjoy using it. Still, this remains a small, slick gaming machine that delivers performance competitive with the best 14-inch gaming laptops on the market.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 for 2022 was the first system announced that would adhere to the 2022 version of AMD's Advantage design framework, as the original G14 model did when it launched in 2020. That means it uses AMD's latest technologies. This year, much of AMD's chip updates aim to increase the battery life of gaming laptops while boosting performance by directing more power where and when it's needed. These include the Ryzen 9 6900HS low-power/high-performance processor for small gaming laptops and either the AMD Radeon RX 6700S or RX 6800S, graphics processors targeting the same low-power-yet-high-performance tier. But the catch seems to be it's either-or: either high performance or low power. And that's not just for graphics-intensive tasks, where I'd typically expect to see the tradeoff.

If you want to set it and forget it, unless you're setting and forgetting while plugged in, this probably isn't the system for you. AMD and Asus may have put all that work into making it "automatic," but it's still not automatic enough. It's possible the curves just need some fine-tuning -- though I retested with BIOS and profile settings in early April -- or that I prioritize battery life a little lower than most. I'll also note that it hasn't shipped yet, so who knows what other optimizations will be made to the version that ships.

I wanted to love the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, but it has one too many flaws. The display is a big thing for me, and the brightness killed my hopes instantly. I was less concerned about the graphics, but it’s sad to see that it doesn’t live up to some of its competitors. If you are willing to trade battery life, the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition is a way better alternative for great performance and a bright display. However, you simply cannot beat the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14’s battery life, design, and bumpin’ speakers. It has its place for sure.

After years of looking at hulking gaming rigs that were only portable in the sense that they had built-in displays, we're still astonished at the raw power that Asus has crammed into the slim profile of the latest ROG Zephyrus G14. It was an impressive feat when the system was introduced back in 2020, but the laptop maker's partnership with AMD has exceeded our expectations and put the competition on notice. Regardless of what benchmark or game we threw at it, the Zephyrus G14 delivered, often with category-leading performance that topped the Alienware X14. In gaming, it went above and beyond mere playability, showing serious gaming chops that belie the first impressions of the thin design and fancy lid. And with its 10-hour battery life and impressively low weight, it's portable enough to take anywhere. If you want a gaming laptop without the usual limitations, the 2022 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is the one to get.

We can't stress enough just how much the original Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 wowed everyone in January of 2020. At the time, it easily destroyed Intel's hulking 9th-gen gaming notebooks by offering far more performance in a very compact and very light laptop. As arguably the first AMD premium gaming laptop of the day, it also helped cement that an AMD laptop could be as good or even better than its Intel-based rivals. Today, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 faces far stiffer competition, but its improved in-your-face AniMe Matrix, impressive AMD CPU and GPU combo, and far better 16:10 panel and webcam honestly removes any issues we had with the original version. It's certainly not a low-cost alternative like the original G14, with the new model sporting a price tag of $2,500, but you're getting one of the smallest, fastest, and literally flashiest laptops we've ever seen. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 punches far above its weight class. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14's customizable AniMe Matrix lid is sure to turn heads.

Gaming performance from the Radeon RX 6800S GPU was strong, especially when crammed into this 14-inch form factor and aided by SmartShift Max. You shouldn’t have any problems pushing even AAA titles well past 60 FPS when running at 1080p. And a reasonable QHD+ gaming experience is achievable too, particularly if you’re happy to drop a bit below the highest image quality settings. On the downsides, there are some to highlight. The price will undoubtedly be very high – probably around £2.5K – but that is somewhat justified. Elsewhere, a few surfaces do get hot to touch under sustained load, there’s no Thunderbolt 4 support which is disappointing at this price point, particularly when comparing Intel competitors, and ASUS’ chosen SSD is vastly underpowered for this calibre of laptop. Overall though, delivering great performance from the new AMD hardware, excellent battery life at 10 hours of PCMark 10, and a superb design implementation. There’s a heck of a lot to like from the 2022 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14.

The Zephyrus G14 is still an incredibly compelling 14-inch notebook, especially if you’re aiming for one of the cheaper models. It’s powerful, slim and it finally has a webcam. But it’s also lost much of what made the 2020 model so special. I suppose that’s progress, though. ASUS kicked off a trend, but now it’s racing to keep up with the competition.

The Razer Blade 14 is another popular choice for ultralight gaming laptops, although the comparatively specced model with the Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics card will set you back $2,199 while offering slightly worse performance and a mere seven-hour battery life. If you’re just looking for a powerful ultrabook, the MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro is $2,499, but its general performance is on par with the Zephyrus G14, it offers a GPU powerful enough for light-to-moderate gaming, and it has ten hours of battery life. A lot of laptops try to emulate the ROG Zephyrus G14’s strong points: performance, portability, style, and long battery life. However, the Zephyrus G14 is among the best all-around. Its biggest flaw is arguably the 720p webcam, but that’s a small sacrifice to make for a stellar gaming experience and great productivity experience in one lightweight chassis. Frankly, it’s the kind of gaming laptop that this picky PC writer would buy.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is a compact gaming laptop that packs performance in a small build. Compared to its predecessors, the new version also offers more power thanks to AMD and the new Zen 3 processors. The Ze[hyrus G14 logo nameplate has a lustrous new holographic hue which is a very unique way to grab attention. The lid of the machine is covered with 14969 precision CNC milled holes. The bottom of the machine uses perforated metal, keeping it thin, light and performs better in cooling. Additionally, there's a QHD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The resulting display and unique design combination justifies the retail pricing. In terms of brightness and its distribution, the QHD display performed well and also achieved very good results in complete darkness. A gaming device needs to have good performance. Asus went with AMD's latest processor, the Ryzen 9 6900HS, and that's the right thing to do. The octa-core CPU offers solid multi-core performance, and single-core performance has also been greatly improved.
The AMD RADEON RX 6800S with 8GB of GDDR6 memory was used as the graphics card. 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB solid-state drive complement the overall package nicely. With this hardware specification, most games were played smoothly in maximum detail. The Zephyrus G14's speakers delivered a better than expected sound quality. Great performance has to be paired with a cooling system for sustainable performance. The Zephyrus 14 is equipped with ROG Intelligent Cooling which features a custom vapor chamber for ultra-efficient heat transfer from the hottest components. Besides that, it also has 0dB technology that allows the fans to be automatically disabled for a truly silent experience.
Battery life is often a weak point for gaming laptops. However, the Zephyrus G14 is completely different. In terms of power consumption, the Zephyrus G14 consumes less power than other competition in idle use. The laptop's 240-watt power supply also charges quicker than its predecessor, which means the battery will be charged quicker than before. Unlike other compact gaming laptops, the Zephyrus G14 is equipped with many input/output ports for connectivity. It has two USB 3.2 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Type-A connections, a full-sized HDMI 2.0 socket, a combination audio jack and a microSD card reader. With the Zephyrus G14, Asus delivers a high performing yet attractive looking device. It is a great choice for gamers who are looking for a decent laptop to game on the go.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
