The Asus ROG Phone 6 Batman Edition costs a little more than the ROG Phone 6D. Undoubtedly, the Batman Edition provides additional accessories and a few handfuls of perks with a customizable Batman theme. But apart from these factors, the phone doesn’t stand out that much from its sibling, if we remove the fact the US variant got Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Overall, it’s not a bad deal if you are a Batman fan, and want to get this special edition. However, if you are not a fan, then we would suggest you go with the normal version. Besides this, the Asus ROG Phone 6 is also a great alternative for an immersive gameplay experience with lots of customization options. So, make the final call according to your need.

The Asus ROG Phone 6 is quite a good device, with a display that is uniform in brightness and color. In addition, HDR10 videos are pleasant to watch, thanks to good management of brightness and contrast. The gaming experience is globally good, as the device is accurate and responds quickly to touch when playing video games. However, its lack of high brightness mode means that the ROG Phone 6 is hard to read under sunlight; further, its transitions are slow and show steps as it adapts to falling light transitions.

There are loads of options when it comes to gaming phones in 2022, but I believe the regular ROG Phone 6 is the best for most people. It excels at the fundamentals, delivering stellar performance, a stunning display and great battery life. With decent cameras, two USB-C ports and even a headphone jack, there’s a lot to like here. However, it’s not perfect, with a lack of wireless charging and poor software update commitment the most prominent. You’ll also need to connect a fan for long gaming sessions. But none of these are dealbreakers for most people, and the ROG Phone 6 provides such a well-rounded experience elsewhere. If you’re serious about gaming on your phone but just want the best core experience, this is the phone to buy.

Asus’ latest ROG Phone 6 is like a super deluxe version of a smartphone. From the hardware point of view, I think Asus has nailed the concept of bringing a powerful gaming phone into your pocket. There are a lot of good ideas that have gone into making the ROG Phone 6, like creating a “mobile gaming” ecosystem through first-party accessories. But that’s where the peak comes, making it difficult for Asus to transcend the formula of creating the most powerful gaming phone that might have worked for certain consumers in the past. After working on six generations of gaming smartphones, the ROG Phone 6 should have looked like a Steam Deck, a device that has successfully brought PC gaming into the handheld form factor.

With expected upgrades when it comes to gaming, Asus did surprise me with a quality primary camera this year in the ROG Phone 6. It offers good performance in daylight and has decent low-light quality which is rare when it comes to gaming smartphones. To a gamer who's main priority is playing games along with having excellent battery life, this might be enough. To a regular consumer, the camera performance isn't the best when compared to similarly priced flagships such as the Vivo X80 Pro (Review). This phone too has good gaming performance (minus the frills of the ROG of course), shoots excellent photos and is a lot more pocketable despite having a large display. It also gets you an IP68 rating. While the phone will not appeal to casual gamers and regular buyers, the Asus ROG Phone 6 is still the only phone in the market to offer this level of hardware and software customisation, which only professional gamers will appreciate. Get one if you are dead-serious about mobile gaming and don't mind lugging this phone around. For those who still want a premium gaming smartphone but don't want to spend as much, last year's Asus ROG Phone 5s from Rs. 49,999 is still a good choice.

When ASUS asked if I’d like to review the Diablo Immortal Edition of the ROG Phone 6, I of course said yes. I am a huge Diablo fan and I was curious to see what sorts of cool things ASUS came up with for the design of this phone. This is ASUS’s second co-branded ROG Phone 6, having previously released a Batman version. And as this is a co-branded product, it features a unique Diablo Immortal-themed design inside and out. What I mean by that is it features a unique graphic on the back with special detailing, and comes with some special Aura RGB lighting, as well as themed fingerprint scanner animations, wallpapers, and notification sounds. It even comes in themed packaging designed after game-related elements, and comes with matching themed accessories including a case, a leather rollup pouch for storing your charger (with a map of Sanctuary on the back), and Fahir’s Light, which is really just a small flashlight for revealing invisible ink (more on that later, because it does come into play). All-in-all, it’s a neat experience for anyone who’s a fan of Diablo Immortal. Even if you don’t like the mobile game and are a fan of the Diablo franchise in general, the phone still serves as a cool collector’s piece. For the most part, this is the same as the regular ROG Phone 6. The specs haven’t changed. So this review will focus mostly on the aspects unique to this Limited-Edition version of the phone.

It should come as no surprise that ASUS’ smartphone making chops are on full display here. However, we weren’t expecting this smartphone to be this good. Frankly, whenever we see the word “gaming” or “gamer” added to a product we worry that it’s a mask for shoddy performance hidden behind RGB lighting and harsh angular designs. Thankfully, ASUS has taking gaming to mean “high performance” and that’s exactly what the ROG Phone 6 is. The camera could use some work but with mobile gaming as big as it is and cloud gaming becoming more pervasive, a phone like this is going to become more popular in the coming years. While it’s not perfect, the ROG Phone 6 has decent specifications, a monstrous battery and it’s incredibly well priced at R22 999. We can easily recommend the ASUS ROG Phone 6, so much so that we’re eyeing one ourselves.

The Asus ROG Phone 6 showed outstanding autonomy in factory default mode in our battery tests. The device lasted more than three full days during the typical usage scenario (TUS), placing it among the best in our database. The same excellent experience was repeated in calibrated mode, especially when playing games and streaming videos. During the on-the-go tests, the device had very good autonomy when calling but a lower one when scrolling on social apps. The 65W charger took less than 1 hour to fully charge the device, which was decent for the large 6000 mAh battery. A quick 5-minutes charge yielded 6 hours and 2 minutes of additional autonomy, which was above the average in our database. The charger efficiency was decent, and the power adapter efficiency was excellent. This charger consumed little power when the device was fully charged and still plugged in, but its consumption when the device was unplugged was higher than average. The Asus ROG Phone 6 had low discharge currents during all our test cases. However, when scrolling social apps, the discharge currents were high. Compared with devices from the same price range ($800+), the Asus earned the top score thanks to its excellent autonomy. Charging and efficiency were good, too.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 155, the Asus ROG Phone 6 just misses out on the top spot in our ranking and earns itself an excellent second place. It also improves by four points over its already very good predecessor ROG Phone 5. Audio performance is impressive overall, especially in Playback. Some minor niggles, mainly in the Recording department, kept the Asus from making it to the very top. As a playback device, the Asus shines — unsurprisingly for a gaming phone — especially when playing games. It’s also great for listening to music or watching movies, though, thanks to a rich and balanced timbre as well as excellent performances in the dynamics and spatial attributes. Audio artifacts are very well controlled as well. On the downside, our testers found slightly too much emphasis on the upper bass in relation to the low-end extension. Artificial bass distortion could do with some fine-tuning as well as our test listeners found it too noticeable. When using the Asus for recording sound, it delivered the best results with the main camera but the front camera came very close. Results are slightly less convincing with the default recorder app. Still, overall recording performance was excellent, with great timbre, a rich and bright tonal balance, impressive wideness and good localizability of individual sound sources. Wind noise reduction was very effective as well. On the downside, the frequency zone around 10 kHz can be too prominent, especially with the recorder app, resulting in hissing and aggressive sibilances. There is also some room for improvement at high sound pressure levels where our testers noticed some recording artifacts, including fairly severe pumping in the low end, and objective measurements at maximum loudness are poor. Handling the device during recording can result in finger noises ending up in the audio files.

Only if you are truly in the gaming field and budget is not an issue to purchase this amazing Asus ROG Phone 6 smartphone, then we recommend it to go for it. It has advanced gameplay features that will enhance gaming sessions, and you can connect various accessories too. The Asus ROG Phone 6 might not have the best camera features, which is expected. But still, if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to this phone, we will recommend the Xiaomi 12s as a value-for-money deal if your budget is low. But in the end, the ROG Phone 6 is an impeccable beast, and if you want you can go for it without any delay.

Gaming phones are always powerful, but they're seldom polished. The ROG Phone 6 is both, matching best-in-class performance with effective cooling and a rich selection of accessories. While we wish Asus went a bit further with the camera and wireless charging, there are enough standout and unique highlights here to make it the best gaming phone available at launch.

The Asus ROG Phone 6 builds on a winning formula of solid specs, familiar styling, and a well-thought-out accessory line. Its ecosystem is one you can really buy into, and the phone is great in day-to-day use, with loads of smart, gamer-centric customisations and software flourishes. The result: a gaming phone that beats out the competition – and rightly so given the fact it's pricier.

Overall we're fairly impressed with the ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro. This redesign is eye catching and functional, and we really like the Storm White aesthetic with integrated display accents. This definitely feels like a more polished smartphone than last year's model, which we also liked. Our only real gripe is that it's such a large device, which also kind of comes with the territory in true gaming phone. On the software side, ASUS Armoury Crate is still excellent as it applies to gaming and system-side tweaks. However, the ROG software setup may not be for everyone, though—some may prefer the classic Zen UI model over the ROG UI. But it's also yet another distinguishing aspect and one that's geared towards the phone's target market of gamers. What this all translates into, in our opinion, is that the ASUS ROG Phone 6 once again solidifies itself as the one of, if not the best gaming phones on the market right now. ASUS tells us pricing will start at $999.99, which while not cheap, is in line with most flagship smartphones wielding similar specs.

Qualcomm Adreno 730: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 30% faster than the Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon 888 SoC. For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in late 2021.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

SD 8+ Gen 1: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in late 2021 and manufactured in 4 nm at TSMC. Integrates one “Prime Core” based on a ARM Cortex-X2 architecture clocked at up to 3.2 GHz. Three more performance cores are based on the A710 but clock up to 2.5 GHz. Furthermore, four energy saving cores are integrated that are based on the ARM Cortex-A510 architecture and clock at up to 1.8 GHz. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 6e modem, a Hexagon DSP (for AI acceleration) and a Spectra ISP. The integrated memory controller supports fast LPDDR5 memory with up to 3,200 MHz. 5G is now included in the chip with the Snapdragon X65 modem. Compared to the non plus version, the 8+ Gen 1 offers a 200 MHz higher clocked Prime Core and a 10% higher clocked GPU. Furthermore, it is now produced at TSMC and not Samsung.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
