Reviews for the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro
The ROG phone takes up the design of the similarly named laptop series, standing for gaming performance without compromises in pocket format. Asus again uses the most powerful Qualcomm SoC and offers optional active cooling for the first time. In addition, the camera finally also received an upgrade.
The smartphones from the Asus ROG Phone 6 Series have emerged as the most powerful gaming phones available right now. They offer impressively high performance, efficient cooling and special gaming features. Asus has now released a limited Diablo Immortal Edition of the phone.

The Asus ROG Phone 6 is another excellent option for that small but dedicated niche of hardcore smartphone gamers. It’s as powerful as they come, the physical controls prove transformational to the gaming experience, and the bundled AeroActive Cooler 6 bolsters gaming performance further. It still represents a compromise in terms of day-to-day practicality, chiefly thanks to a chunky and gaudy design. But the provision of a camera that’s actually capable of taking respectable snaps, in conjunction with a reasonably clean UI, mark a welcome nod to mainstream considerations.

Throughout our Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro review, the phone hasn’t performed flawlessly in every category, but it has pulled out all the stops for its target market. When it comes to mobile gaming, it’s hard to beat the experience on offer here, even if not a huge amount has changed compared to the ROG 5 series. Importantly, the ROG Phone 6 Pro pairs best-in-class performance with all the features gamers could want. Whether it’s fine-grain performance controls, low touch latency, pass-through charging, low latency Bluetooth audio, or multi-hour gaming sessions, Asus has found space to cram it all in. Coupled with a selection of very nice gaming accessories, there’s a broader ecosystem worth buying into here too.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is a beast of a phone, packed with features designed to appeal specifically to gamers, but delivering a great experience to standard users too. The design is a bit out there, but if you spend a lot of time gaming on your phone there are real advantages to what the ROG Phone offers. There's a great display, loads of power and speakers that beat just about anything else out there - along with software features to enhance your gaming experience. That there's only 2 year of software updates is a downside and the camera isn't the best you'll find. But otherwise, we'd be happy to use this all the time.

The ROG Phone 5S and 5S Pro were a little underwhelming by Asus’ lofty standards, but the company has emphatically put that right this time around. The ROG Phone 6 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm’s latest top-of-the-line chip. Combined with 18GB of RAM, you’ll struggle to find better performance on any smartphone. The phone also has the joint-highest refresh rate of any phone at 165Hz, improving a display that was already excellent. Thanks to the 6000mAh battery, battery life remains a real highlight. Elsewhere, you now get a better main camera on the back than on older models, plus IPX4 water resistance for the first time and some impressive charging features. However, it’s not all good news. The other rear cameras are underwhelming, while a heavy, bulky design won’t please all mobile gamers. Asus still hasn’t included a built-in fan either, so the phone can run hot unless you connect an external version that’s sold separately. None of these should be dealbreakers on a gaming phone, but they become more significant when you’re paying a lot.

The ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro is a top-tier flagship device with some of the latest hardware and features that help in mobile games. If you want a device with gaming features and excellent performance in practically all aspects, this is the phone for you. However, it has one glaring problem that will make most people think twice - its price. Specifically, its price tag of RM4999. That's a lot of money to invest in a gaming phone. You might think, "But I have the budget, so why not?" Well, it's not a bad option if the top-notch features are what you want. And if you want a gaming phone that looks awesome, you can't go wrong with this one. Of course, this phone is overkill if you just need a regular smartphone. Want a powerhouse in mobile photography? Well, you'll have better luck with non-gaming smartphones. But if you want more affordable gaming smartphones, there are options available. In this case, we recommend checking out the Black Shark 5 Pro (RM3999), POCO F4 GT (RM2499), and OnePlus 10T 5G (~RM2900).

And as for the Black Shark 5 Pro, the only arguable strength it has over the ROG Phone 6 is that it features a pair of retractable physical buttons on the right side of the device, which you can pop up via a pair of switches alongside it. Our colleague Najib even swears by it, preferring it over the Air Triggers on the ROG Phone 6 series. However, it doesn’t have the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 under the hood, instead only coming with the vanilla Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and will cost you a bit more too starting at RM3,699. We’ve compared these two devices in further detail before already, so if you’re interested you can click here to read more. My point is that, for what it’s worth the ROG Phone 6 seems to be hitting all of the key points that many out there want in a smartphone. To me, it’s not just a good gaming smartphone, but a good smartphone in general, and one that I think both mobile gamers and power users may enjoy using quite a bit.

The Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro is by far the fastest performer on the market right now. In virtually every way, it’s faster than every other phone at the time of writing. These kinds of victories rarely last, and when other phones with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 start to appear (the next one is already in testing), there will definitely be new competition for the top spots. What will set the ROG Phone 6 apart from the crowd for a long time, however, is the external cooling, AeroActive Cooler 6, which ensures that the top speed can be maintained for more than a few minutes at a time. The excellent display completes the picture of a top-class dedicated gaming phone. The ROG Phone 6 is not for everyone. But if you want the coolest hardware right now, and you’re prepared to pay almost as much for the phone as you would for a mid-range PC, then there’s no question.

However, as a stand-alone gaming phone, we highly recommend ROG Phone 6 Pro as the best gaming-centric smartphone you can get in the market today. Asus has proven that time and again, it can deliver on its promise of a gaming phone that performs well, is designed intuitively, and can deliver on the wow factor in this category. The ROG Phone 6 Pro is now available in stores with a suggested retail price of PHP 64,995 for the 18GB RAM and 512GB storage. The ROG Phone 6 with 12GB + 256GB is priced at PHP 47,995, while the 16GB + 512GB configuration sells for PHP 54,995.

If you desire to unlock the next level of gameplay experience on a smartphone, the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro smartphone is undoubtedly the most pleasing choice in 2022. It blends the immersive performance with advanced gaming-centric customization so that the gamers can easily utilize all of the specs and get the best result while playing games. On the other hand, there’s no denying that the price point is quite aggressive for beginner gamers. However, you don’t need to worry about anything as you can check out the value-for-money alternatives such as the Black Shark 5 RS. It will provide astounding specs and sufficient performance for an exceptional gaming session.

If you want one of the most powerful mobile gaming devices available, look no further than the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. It includes the fastest hardware on the market and offers impressive performance across the board. In addition to one of the quickest displays in a phone, it boasts staggering speed, raw polygon-pushing power, and advanced thermals to keep those frame rates as close to 60fps as possible. Only two aspects might give some buyers pause: the divisive aesthetics and the lack of wireless charging. These are part and parcel for the gaming phone course, though. Despite any minor drawbacks, the ROG Phone 6 Pro looks like it will be an easy recommendation once it comes to the US. Asus is eyeing a late September US launch for the phone, at which point we'll give it an official score. If you can't wait that long, the Galaxy S22+ is a more well-rounded alternative with better cameras that is also slightly more affordable.

There is no better gaming phone available today. The ROG Phone 6 Pro is astonishingly capable, and Asus’s knowledge of what makes a great gaming device shines through in every aspect, from the stunning screen and expertly tuned shoulder buttons, to the side-mounted USB port, the uprated cooling system, and the brilliant Kunai 3 gamepad accessory. But at the same time, Asus hasn’t lost sight of the ROG Phone 6 Pro still needing to work as a normal phone. The software is usable for everyday tasks, the camera is acceptable, and the fundamental smartphone features like long battery life, plus good call and connectivity performance, are all there too. What the ROG Phone 6 Pro isn’t is a big step forward over the ROG Phone 5 or ROG Phone 5S, and nor is it a jack-of-all-trades like other expensive flagship phones. Yes, it works as a normal phone, but you’ll have to put up with its size, weight, and flashy design. It comes with the territory for gamers but is less palatable if you only play games casually. This isn’t a criticism or a downside, though.

Nevertheless, I think that smartphones like these do serve a purpose, and it’s clear that Asus is targeting a little bit more of the mainstream now. The cameras are certainly a weak point, but even those can be forgiven when there’s this much power. Google does a terrible job at gaming but a great job at software and cameras. Asus does a great job at gaming and software but doesn’t really impress with the cameras. So in a way, it truly is the Google Pixel Ultra of gaming.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is a beast of a gaming phone, providing you all of the power you could possibly need. The Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro is nothing if not a niche phone, but fortunately for its fans it does excel at this niche. Performance levels are fantastic and the screen is very smooth and responsive, so you’re likely to find that this handset will help you to up your game considerably. If you’re looking for a great camera though, then you’re likely to be a little disappointed with this one. But that’s hardly a surprise as photography isn’t the focus of this handset. The reason you’d consider this device in the first place is if you’re a keen gamer, so this device’s objectively high performance across the key categories, twinned with its handsome design and its capability for attaching accessories, should make this one a great choice for you.

However, at £1,099/€1,299 in Europe, the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro is not the jack of all trades you would expect at this price. Without wireless charging, a comprehensive camera setup, an IP68 rating, or a competitive long-term update pledge, Asus is charging a lot of money compared to other smartphones on the market.

And that leads us to price. Starting at €999 for a base ROG Phone 6 and €1299 for the ROG Phone 6 Pro, we are looking at a device that rubs shoulders with the best of them. Luckily, beyond its gaming prowess, the ROG Phone 6 Pro is also a very well-rounded device with one of the best displays and audio setups around and a truly amazing battery life. In that sense, maybe it can even compete with the Galaxy S22's and iPhone 13's of the world. Whether or not that's a fair competition in your view is an entirely personal stance. As it currently stands, the ROG Phone 6 Pro gets two thumbs up from us, and we'll leave it at that.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro is the fastest phone available today, and the retooled cooling system does a great job managing thermals. The large 165Hz AMOLED panel is an absolute joy to use, the customizable AirTriggers make a huge difference in games, and the side-mounted USB-C port is intact — as is the 3.5mm jack. There's a decent camera at the back, a clean Android 12 interface without any bloatware, and the battery lasts well over a day even with heavy use. In short, this is the best gaming phone of 2022 by a long margin.

I think if you’re looking for a gaming phone, then I would highly recommend considering the ROG Phone 6 series. While ASUS hasn’t announced official pricing or availability for the US at the time of this review, we know it won’t be cheap. That being said, I still think you get what you pay for in most cases. And hands down, you’re paying for the best gaming experience on mobile when you buy a ROG Phone. With the ability to map up to 14 touch points on screen with use of the AirTrigger 6 system, better audio, a bright clear display with a fast refresh rate, and a large battery, the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro are powerhouses. This is the best of the best of gaming phones. And while I do think there are still some things ASUS could have done to make the phones even better, that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is the best mobile gaming experience on the market. Plus, the phone finally comes with at least some official water resistance. ASUS knocked it out of the park again, and I’m not surprised.

While it took a while, ASUS puts a lot of promise with the ROG Phone 6 Pro in establishing itself as the gaming phone to beat in the Philippines. ASUS managed to incorporate a few improvements on the ROG Phone 6 Pro–all while keeping the size and form factor the same as previous models. With all the features the ROG Phone 6 Pro has to offer, we expect it to be expensive once it becomes official in the Philippines. For reference, the ROG 5s Pro last year was priced close to Php 60k, while the European price of the ROG Phone 6 Pro is around Php 74.2k when converted.

Qualcomm Adreno 730: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 30% faster than the Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon 888 SoC. For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in late 2021.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
