Reviews for the Vivo X Flip

As is the case with the Vivo X Fold 2, it's really tough to recommend the X Flip wholeheartedly. Vivo's first clamshell foldable is quite excellent, especially after you get past the lack of Google services out of the box. The camera is great, the battery life is superb, and it's comfortable to hold despite being quite slippery. Not only is the Galaxy Z Flip 5 looming around the corner, but the Razr Plus is already available and you can go to your local carrier and grab one now. If there's one thing that I know for sure, it's that I'm excited to see what Vivo can do with a possible successor. If you really want to pick up the Vivo X Flip for yourself, it's available through Giztop, and at the time of this writing, is actually on sale for around $999. But you might be better suited to wait a bit longer to see what the Z Flip 5 has to offer.

The Vivo X Flip smartphone will provide a great experience to any user who buys this smartphone. Even at this price range, this device lacks in some parts such as water resistance, wireless charging, and a brighter display. The display is great and bright enough, but under direct sunlight, other foldable phones are better in this regard. Not to mention, the lack of water resistance and wireless charging is a deal breaker for some users. It would have been understandable if the smartphone was priced cheaper, which it is not. As an alternative option, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphone is a lot of value for money. So the Vivo X Flip does not compete with other foldable phones upon price comparison. But if you ignore the pricing comparison, it’s a great foldable smartphone actually and you will have a decent experience using it.

The vivo X Flip might be the best clamshell foldable if you value the camera experience, while the X Fold 2 brings some unique features to the book-style form factor. Sadly, with limited availability you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your hands on them.

Arriving late to the clamshell party, the vivo X Flip manages to get more things right on the first try, though it's not exactly perfect. Video capture with the cover cameras when using the cover screen for framing is the biggest missed opportunity - 4K is disabled, there's no stabilization, and you can't access the ultrawide. We reckon these are fixable with a software update, but we wouldn't hold our collective breath. Most of the X Flip's other shortcomings are built in (though technically they were built out) - the lack of stereo speakers is unacceptable at this level, and the competition is fitting wireless charging while vivo hasn't. The X Flip is also missing any explicit ingress protection, though we're still debating whether to hold that against it.

The Vivo X Flip is Vivo's first clamshell foldable and it brings the usual strengths and weaknesses of clamshell foldables: it's compact, sleek, stylish, but the outside cover screen doesn't do enough. However, the Vivo X Flip has a strong main camera that can capture some very fun portraits. I'm also a fan of OriginOS, Vivo's China-only software.

The company that put the “wow” back in foldables a year ago with the Vivo X Fold is back … and this time around, it’s coming for clamshell fans! The Vivo X Flip is an Android smartphone that takes a familiar Samsung design and … “flips” some things around. The result is a mobile device that stands out – but its halo feature still misses the point. Join Michael Fisher for MrMobile’s Vivo X Flip review!

Qualcomm Adreno 730: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 30% faster than the Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon 888 SoC. For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in late 2021.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.85.25%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
