Cheaper. After the review of the N56VZ with the powerful GeForce GT 650M, we will now have a look at the cheaper model with a GeForce GT 630M.

Beneath the stylish exterior of the N56V, there lies a sleeping beast; a beast with a roar loader than any others that lay before it. That beast is a brand new Intel Core i7-3720QM 2.6GHz processor, one of the chip giant's third generation Core CPUs.

If you want a powerful multimedia laptop the N56 should be on your short list. It’s admittedly expensive, but no more so that similar competition. Also, if ASUS acts as it has in the past, there will be a base-trim model available within a few months offering an entry-level Ivy Bridge quad or an Ivy Bridge dual-core. This hypothetical PC would be a great value.

From the moment I first opened the package and pulled out the N56VM, I have been impressed with ASUS’ latest hardware. The silver palm rest is a nice change of pace from all the black laptops I’ve tested during the past few years, the keyboard is comfortable to use, and the display is a great improvement over all the low quality 1366x768 displays we—and our readers—have been complaining about.

All up, the N56VM is a very good laptop. It was most enjoyable to use thanks to its good keyboard, touchpad and matte screen and we found the sound quality to be exceptional, too. It can supply swift performance for office applications, but it can also be used capably as a gaming machine, as long as you aren't used to playing with super-high detail settings. For an asking price of $1399, we think it's well worth it.

In the end, there are so many things Asus managed to get right with their N56 that you’re going to forget about the tiny details that are a bit OFF. In fact, if the body wouldn’t get hot when pushing the laptop, I’d have nothing to list as a serious down-side for this machine. But be aware that if you’re looking to play a lot of games and run intensive pieces of software most of the time, the heating issue can be a deal breaker.

Before we wrap this up, let's go over the software bundle. It features Windows 7 Home Premium, the limited and ad-supported Microsoft Office Starter 2010, and CyberLink's MediaSuite for disc-creation chores. We found no antivirus app—not even a trial—but a boatload of Asus utilities of varying value, including Asus @Vibe, which provides a full-screen interface for listening to music and Internet radio and shopping for games and books.

Asus looked to add to the multimedia line of laptops with the N56VZ-DS71. It has a beautiful 1080p 15.6-inch display, great audio quality and speedy performance. While it does lack in battery life, it makes up for it in its design and set of multimedia features.

The ASUS N56V combines understated elegance with powerhouse specs. For $1,149 (as little as $1,089 at some stores), consumers walk away with the potent combination of quad-core Ivy Bridge and Nvidia graphics in addition to a beautiful 1080p matte display and robust audio. The bundled external subwoofer doesn't add that much of an impact, but it's a nice perk.

You are paying a bit of a premium for the 2.1 speakers, HD screen and Blu-ray drive, so if you simply need a fast 15.6in laptop then there are obviously cheaper options available. However, the N56VM is a very capable multimedia laptop that will earn its keep as part of your home entertainment system, or delivering slick multimedia presentations in the boardroom.

Asus N56VZ-4338D
In order to fulfill the computing needs of users across the globe, laptops manufacturers have kept introducing new products which should bring vast improvements in computing technology. Asus is no different; they have released one of their latest products, namely Asus N56VZ-4338D into the laptop market. Equipped with a 15.6-inch screen supporting full-HD resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, the experience of watching movies and playing games on it is simply stunning with the high quality display. Its combination of Intel Core i7 processor and the video card from Nvidia Geforce can run the latest games with ease. Hence it isn’t really a surprise that it performs well in both work and multimedia tasks. Any task such as word processing, browsing and multimedia editing can be executed smoothly, which is impressive for a laptop in its price range. The best thing about this laptop is, how Asus managed to keep its price at competitive level considering the high specs.
However, there’re still some downsides to it. While its competitors have been fitting much better touchpad, the touchpad of this laptop feels stiff and skittish. It is also quite weak which is a huge let down for a laptop with such solid build quality. Although this laptop serves well as a multimedia laptop, disappointingly and surprisingly there are no dedicated media control keys above the keyboard. Other than that, there isn’t anything else that can be complained about this laptop. Nonetheless, if you’re looking for a robust and reliable laptop with great media capabilities, this is definitely an excellent choice.

The ASUS N56DP is probably going to get the most attention thanks to its 1920x1080 resolution display with anti-glare coating that does a fantastic job but it is also notable for using the AMD quad core processor. This provides it with plenty of performance for most users but it still doesn't offer the same level as Intel's quad core mobile processor and it also doesn't have the same running times.

What makes this laptop distinguished above others for this price is probably the combination of the added value for this price – nice external subwoofer, 1TB HDD, the good matte 1080p screen, very good keyboard and comfortable/big touchpad, not-too-bad speakers (which I suggest replacing with 50$ speakers), backlit keyboard, the stylish looks and the very good thermals / noise levels.

Ambitious. Metal surfaces, backlit keyboard, a Full HD screen and an external subwoofer lets Asus' N56VB stand out from the competition in many aspects. Asus N56JR-S4010D
The Asus N56 line has established itself as a budget line with awesome performance. The latest from Asus is the N56JR-S4010D, which bears the same design as the previous iteration. The aluminum black exterior is clean and minimalist and the interior is a sleek silver, with black island keys and a black bezel. A forward thinking option to embrace USB 3.0 provides 4 such ports, with no USB 2.0 ports to speak of. The power button is surrounded by small holes drilled into the silver aluminum, for the speakers, and as expected for this line, the audio is quality laden. The Bang & Olufsen speakers are enhanced by the provided external subwoofer, making for the best audio of laptops in this price range.
Weighing in at 2.7kg, this 15.6 incher would be most suitable as a desktop replacement. In light of the fact that web surfing on WiFi drains the battery in 3 hours and 30 minutes, this machine is really more of a deskbound laptop. With the emphasis on audio quality, and the quad core Intel Core i7-4700HQ that clocks in at 2.40GHz, this is a machine that can handle professional audio editing tasks. With the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M with 2GB GDDR5, moderate gaming and video editing tasks are possible as well. The 1920 x 1080 resolution display provides a great viewing experience, and the matte finish prevents reflection in well lit areas. Overall, Asus have managed to create a machine that will satisfy both gamers on a budget and creative professionals.

Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores.
