Certainly Intel doesn't mind either way you'd go, because Sandy Bridge is in both machines. So as far as they're concerned, you can't go wrong, though AMD might argue that a bit for thin and light machines, with something called Fusion. And of course Asus has higher-end SKUs with Core i7 Sandy Bridge chips under the hood as well, if you're looking for something in between this and the MacBook.

Battery life is definitely worth mentioning as with the Asus K53E-B1, we were able to get just above 6 hours of battery life, which is quite good, especially compared to similar notebooks. However since this really isn't a portable notebook, battery life might be less of a worry.

I wouldn't recommend the Asus K53E-B1 to frequent fliers, gamers, or anyone requiring lots of raw computing power. But if money is tight and you need a workhorse for everyday computing, watching DVDs, or listening to music, this might be a good candidate.

The release of new Intel Sandy Bridge processors is making it possible for budget-conscious consumers to get a little extra processing power for their money. The surprisingly affordable Asus K53E-B1 outdoes much of its competition with a suave design, fantastic battery life, and a powerful second-gen Core i5 processor.

The ASUS K53E 15.6-inch entertainment laptop is sleek thanks to the timeless design by ASUS and powerful due to the Intel Sandy Bridge 2nd generation Core i5-2520M dual-core processor!

But while the hardware in the K53E may be excellent, it can’t save this laptop, at least not in this configuration. The bargain-priced K53E-A1, with a Sandy Bridge Core i3 processor and a price tag of around $625, is worth consideration among users who want an inexpensive powerhouse. Our review model is akin to the K53E-B1, however, which has a much higher price of $750. The hardware is fast enough to justify spending the extra dough, but the so-so chassis doesn't fit the higher price.

The K53E manages to combine good performance and battery life into a well-made 15.6-inch chassis. Our main complaints center around the low screen resolution, loud touchpad buttons, and lack of ports (no USB 3.0 or eSATA). Otherwise there is a lot to like here: very good performance, a decent keyboard and speakers, cool and quiet operation, a solid chassis, five hours of battery life, and a two-year warranty standard. Overall, the ASUS K53E is a reasonable 15.6-inch multimedia notebook and gets our recommendation.

PC maker Asus has spent the last several years riding the popular Netbook wave, almost single-handedly creating the sub-$400 10-inch laptop category. But now that Netbooks have faded from the top products lists (largely for failing to innovate), Asus has to fall back on everyday mainstream laptops instead. For Intel's next-gen CPUs in an attractive, affordable, midsize package, the Asus K53E is easier on the wallet than systems from Dell or Apple.

For $749, the ASUS K53E-B1 gives buyers a stylish design and top-notch overall performance. We just wish the keyboard felt a little more solid and that the Wi-Fi performance was stronger from longer distances. For $50 more, you can get a Blu-ray player and better audio in the Toshiba A665, or spend the same extra 50 bucks to get a better sounding Dell XPS 15 with Nvidia graphics (albeit with less RAM and hard drive space). However, we really like the K53E because it lasts an hour longer on a charge than either of those systems and looks better doing it.

IceCool. Asus is trying to appeal to the mainstream with its new K53SV multimedia notebook. The 15 inch device should impress with its Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor, as well as the GeForce GT 540M graphics card from Nvidia. In addition to this the neat case also contains a Blu-ray drive.

At $949, the K53SV-B1 is a nice-looking laptop that offers more than enough power for multimedia enthusiasts and even gamers. And even with its quad-core processor and Nvidia graphics, this machine runs pretty cool. However, the system lacks USB 3.0 connectivity, and its hard drive is a little slow. Overall, we prefer the HP Pavlion dv6t because of its sleeker design and better sound, and the Dell XPS 15 also beats this notebook in the audio department. However, for this price, the K53SV-B1 delivers a lot of entertainment bang for the buck.

Frankly, the inexpensive Asus K53 will do anything most people can ask of it. Video editing is just out of its reach, and single-finger scrolling is out of the question. The overall impression given by K53BY is very positive, and should ASUS iron out all the small drawbacks in the final version, such as much too noisy touchpad buttons, we’d have trouble finding reasons not to recommend this model. A good price/performance ratio makes this ASUS a perfect candidate for our Best Buy award, which it would’ve got until we were informed that, as we’ve already said, there would be a model without the discreet graphics and costing 50€ less. That way, the aforementioned ratio really reaches the perfect balance, raising the usability value of netbooks far above what we’ve grown accustomed to enjoy up to now, and bridging the gap between netbooks and notebooks. For now, K53BY will have to enjoy its other award, while we rest assured that one of its variants will be the absolute best buy in this class.

ASUS tries very hard to make the K53E-A1 a compelling system based primarily upon is appearance. It certainly looks like a much more expensive system but functionality is certainly just as important. In this sense, there isn't much that ASUS does to separate it from many other $600 laptops.

The Asus K53E-RBR4 offers a fair amount of power and punch for its money, though it's not a stellar performer along the lines of the Editors' Choice Asus U56E-BBL6 (which costs quite a bit more) or Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066AJU (which costs the same). We'd even give a slight edge to the Samsung NP300E5A-A01UB, because of its outstanding battery life and its identical price, or the Gateway NV55S05u because of its gaming prowess and lower cost. There's nothing wrong with the K53E-RBR4, though any of these other systems would help you stretch your dollar further.

If you like this laptop and want to purchase it, I recommend the ASUS A53TA-XE2 found on Newegg. This laptop appears to use the same chassis and almost identical hardware as the K53T we reviewed here, but comes with slightly less RAM and a lower price of $629.99. In my opinion 6GB is overkill for this laptop, so saving money and buying the A53TA-XE2 is an obvious choice.

The price is hot. Asus proves with the K53SK-SX021V that you don't have to spend more than 600 Euros for good performance. Alongside the metal palm rest, the brand new Radeon HD 7610M catches your eye. Can the 15-inch all-rounder stand against the tough competition?

The ASUS K53S is a great product, if you’re willing to spend Rs. 44,999 on it. It’s also a great notebook, if you’re into multimedia applications and gaming on-the-go. The performance isn’t spectacular when it comes to gaming, so don’t expect to be gaming at ultra high quality settings. With medium settings, you’ll be able to play the games just fine. If you’re looking for a notebook for purely desktop applications, then you’ll be fine with something priced at under Rs. 40,000, but without a discrete graphics solution onboard.

If you’re looking for a notebook for purely desktop applications, then you’ll be fine with something priced at under Rs. 40,000, but without a discrete graphics solution onboard.

The centrepiece of the Asus K53S is the impressive Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU that blew through our benchmarking tests and placed one of the best scores for a laptop in this price range. Although the K53S has one or two drawbacks that might influence your buying decision, the fact you can get that kind of power for under £700 means it's worthy of consideration.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.
Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
AMD Radeon HD 6250: Integrated graphics card in the Ontario netbook processors (e.g. C-50 and C-30) featuring an UVD3 video decoder and no dedicated memory.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M:
Mid-range graphics card based on the GT 435M chip (GF108) with higher clock rates and DDR3 support.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Entry level graphics card based on the new GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus or on the GF108 with 128 Bit memory bus but lower clock rates.
AMD Radeon HD 6650M: Successor of the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with more cores, UVD3 processor and Eyefinity+. Due to the same codename, the 6650M should be a HD 6750M with slow DDR3 memory.
AMD Radeon HD 6720G2: Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 6650M and a 6620G APU graphics card (e.g. found in the AMD 3400M CPU).
AMD Radeon HD 6470M: Entry to middle class graphics card based on the Seymore XT codename featuring the UVD3 video processor.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX:
Entry level graphics card based on the GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus. Compared to the GT 520M, the MX is higher clocked.
AMD Radeon HD 7610M: Based on the same chip as the Radeon HD 6630M but with slower clock rates and only 5 instead of the 6 SIMD blocks = 400 shader.
NVIDIA GeForce 610M: Entry level graphics card based on the older GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 520MX.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Renamed Radeon HD 6650M and therefore still produced in 40nm.

3.4 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
76.74%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
