Case and connectivity - Two webcams and optional WWAN
Asus provides the BR1100FKA's case with a surrounding rubber bumper that protects the convertible from impact. Splashing water and shearing motions, for example, are no problem for the device, which is certified according to the MIL-STD-810H standard. However, with a thickness of almost 2 centimeters and a weight of approximately 1.4 kg, the convertible is the thickest and heaviest device in our test field.
The available ports are certainly extensive, but some of them are optional. For example, our test model doesn't have an SD card reader, and the optional WWAN is missing as well. The slot where the stylus can be stored is also blocked by a dummy plug.
Inside the Asus convertible is a free M.2 slot that allows the installation of an SSD. This allows you to expand the very limited eMMC flash memory considerably. Only the corresponding soldering points are visible when it comes to the WWAN module. Neither a slot nor preinstalled antennas are present.
Wireless connections are established by the BR1100FKA-BP0109RA using Bluetooth 5.1 or Wi-Fi 6. Nevertheless, in combination with our Netgear Nighthawk AX12 reference router, only comparatively slow speeds of 216 Mb/s are achieved for sending data and 136 Mb/s for receiving data.
The Asus BR1100FKA is equipped with two webcams, one of which is a 0.9 MP model that is positioned above the display. The image quality is correspondingly low, but it meets the standard of the majority of recent and also much more expensive devices. The second camera is located above the keyboard, resulting in it being at the back of the convertible in tablet mode. With a resolution of 12 MP, much better pictures can be taken with it.

Input devices - Stylus not included
The keys of the Asus BR1100FKA offer a clearly perceptible feedback and are well suited for typing longer text. The arrow keys are a bit smaller and, therefore, less intuitive to use. Keyboard backlighting is not available.
A ClickPad is used as mouse replacement, allowing the mouse pointer to be controlled well. It also responds well to touch inputs and mechanically triggered clicks. If the device is operated using the touchscreen, taps are picked up responsively. However, the surface is not very well suited for drag-and-drop motions. The input stylus shown in the picture is optionally available for purchase.
Display - Good contrast ratio
The Asus convertible's screen consists of an 11.6-inch IPS panel and offers a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The maximum brightness of 230 cd/m² on average is in the lower range of our test field, and it's only undercut by the Chuwi LarkBook. The brightness distribution of 87% is average as well.
PWM is used for brightness control, with the frequency of 2,500 Hz being comparatively high. Therefore, users with very sensitive eyes don't necessarily have to anticipate difficulties. Asus doesn't offer additional display variants.

The display backlight flickers at 2500 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 2500 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19035 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured. |
According to our measurements, the Asus BR1100FKA offers a comparatively high contrast ratio of 1,241:1 and a low black level of 0.195 cd/m². Although the color-space coverage of 68% corresponds to the average of this class, the value provided is still quite low. The CalMAN analysis also shows that colors are displayed only with a slight deviation out of the box.
When the convertible is used outdoors, strong reflections and glare obstruct the view of the display. However, the built-in panel is very viewing-angle stable, which allows content to be displayed without distortions or inaccurate colors even from flat angles.
Performance - Asus BR1100FKA suitable for typing tasks
Asus is targeting the BR1100FKA at users who are looking for a robust convertible for applications that don't require a lot of system performance. Typing tasks and Internet browsing are possible without any problems. Our test unit comes with the base configuration. For an additional price, the device is also available with the somewhat stronger Intel Celeron N5100 or the Intel Pentium Silver N6000.
The storage configuration is variable as well, and you can opt for up to 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of eMMC flash storage. The RAM and flash memory can't be upgraded, though, since they're soldered in place.
Processor
The Intel Celeron N4500 used here is a processor with two cores from Intel's Jasper-Lake generation. It doesn't support multithreading, it can only process two tasks at the same time as a result. Its predecessor is the Intel Celeron N4020 CPU, which is installed in the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 in our test field.
As our Cinebench R15 test shows, the N4500 achieves an almost 20% higher score than the N4020 right at the beginning of the endurance test. However, the Asus convertible's result drops very sharply subsequently, and it only delivers rates below the IdeaPad Flex 3 up until the end of the test. Both devices are passively cooled.
When it comes to the individual disciplines, the Asus BR1100FKA performs within the range of our test field, but it's outperformed by devices with quad-core CPUs in multi-core applications in particular.

Storage
Asus uses a 64 GB eMMC flash storage device in our test configuration. Although it's a bit faster than other devices with this storage type, it's still significantly slower than affordable SSDs like those used in comparable competing devices. The 64 GB are largely occupied by the operating system, which is why investing in a model with 128 GB of storage is recommended.
Our HDD/SSD Benchmarks article shows the speeds offered by other mass storage devices in comparison.

Graphics card
The Intel UHD Graphics (Jasper Lake 16 EUs) internal graphics unit takes care of displaying image content. It's only suitable for applications with low graphics performance requirements, meaning that simple image-editing tasks, for example, can only be executed with longer waiting times. The Asus BR1100FKA achieves better scores than our test field in the 3DMark benchmarks, but it's still at a low level overall.
Our GPU Benchmarks article shows the performance that can be expected from other graphics cards.

Gaming performance
The Asus BR1100FKA convertible isn't designed for gaming. Even older titles can't be run smoothly at the lowest graphics settings. As a result, only games like solitaire can be executed without problems.

Verdict - Robust and affordable
The Asus BR1100FKA proves to be a convertible for simple tasks in the test. The installed hardware is perfectly sufficient for office applications and Internet browsing, but you shouldn't expect anything else beyond that. Wi-Fi is comparatively slow, and the display is only suitable for working indoors. In return, battery life is comparatively long.
The Asus BR1100FKA is well suited for applications that require little performance but a robust device at the same time.
The biggest plus point, however, is the robust case that protects the interior from bumps and splashing water. While the built-in storage in the 64 GB version is very limited, it can be expanded significantly via the free SSD slot. If money isn't the main factor, you should also consider the version with 128 GB of internal storage as well as more RAM. But if the robust case is not needed, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3, for example, is the better choice.
Price and availability
You can find the 128 GB version of the Asus BR1100FKA in newegg for around $415. Alternatively, you can also find this model on Amazon for a bit less at around $400.
