Aqara launches the Motion Sensor P1 with a five-year battery life
Aqara has launched the Motion Sensor P1, an updated version of the original Aqara Motion Sensor. The device has three sensitivity modes that you can use to set the distance at which the gadget will trigger; high, medium and low. These modes can reduce the number of false alarms.
The Motion Sensor P1 has up to five years of battery life. A built-in light sensor can control the gadget more accurately; for example, you could set your smart lights to only come on when it’s dark and motion is detected.
The sensor has a wide 170° field of view for up to two meters and a 150° field of view for up to seven meters. The stand enables the gadget to rotate 360°. You can use the Aqara Home app to configure settings such as detection timeout, set from 1 to 200 seconds.
The device supports OTA updates and the Zigbee 3.0 protocol, plus it will support the Matter standard when this is released. The gadget is also compatible with Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa. It’s worth noting that this new motion sensor is not the same as the model unveiled at CES 2022 with thread support; this gadget will be available later in 2022.
The Aqara Motion Sensor P1 is already available in some countries, including Germany and France, with incomplete Amazon listings appearing in other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. In Europe, the device will retail for €29.99 (~US$33). The device is currently selling in Germany at a discounted price of €25.99 (~US$28).
