Apple confirms there will be no 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon
After discontinuing the popular 27-inch iMac and the iMac Pro, enthusiasts of the larger iMac screen size have been eagerly awaiting the iconic 27-inch iMac to be updated with Apple Silicon. However, recent information from Apple, as conveyed by their PR representative Starlayne Meza to The Verge, dashes those hopes as the company has confirmed that they have no plans of launching a new 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon.
Starlayne Meza's statement encourages current and prospective customers of the 27-inch iMac to explore alternative options from the Mac desktop lineup, such as the Mac Studio or the Mac Mini, and complement their choice with Apple's US$1,599 Studio Display.
However, it's worth noting that Apple has remained tight-lipped about the potential development of a 32-inch iMac Pro, a subject of ongoing speculation from reputable analysts. According to insights from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is indeed preparing to introduce a 32-inch Apple Silicon-powered iMac desktop in 2025.
Moreover, this new larger iMac is set to feature a cutting-edge Mini-LED display similar to the 4-year old US$4,999 Pro Display XDR, a significant upgrade from the current 24-inch and the previous 27-inch models' IPS LCD screen. Furthermore, analyst Mark Gurman has previously also noted Apple's active development efforts in this direction, indicating the possibility of a late 2024 release, in addition to the 2025 launch stated by Kuo.
