The Apple M5 Max has appeared on Geekbench 6 with unsurprisingly impressive scores.
A recently leaked Geekbench 6 listing for Apple's latest and greatest M5 Max SoC has revealed that no other laptop chip on the planet stands a chance against the 18-core M5 Max, at least in Geekbench. Both the AMD Ryzen AI Max "Strix Halo" and Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPUs are left in the dust by a massive margin

The first Apple M5 Max benchmarks have appeared, and the numbers look just as promising as one might expect from a high-end Apple Silicon SoC.

According to the leaked Geekbench 6 listing, the 18-core Apple M5 Max manages to score a whopping 29,233 points in the multi-core department, and roughly 4,260 points in single-core. For reference, the vanilla M5 MacBook Pro (currently $1,440 on Amazon) scores around the same in single-core, which is to be expected, and around 17,100 in multi-core.

M5 Max: Intel and AMD don't stand a chance, at least in Geekbench

Compared to its predecessor, the M4 Max, the M5 Max commands a roughly 9% improvement in the single-core test. In the multi-core test, however, the newly launched chip is around 14% faster. Interestingly, the result also makes the M5 Max the fastest CPU Apple has ever made, rocking a 5.4% lead over the highest-end M3 Ultra.

When pitted against offerings from AMD and Intel over at x86 world, there is simply no consumer CPU which outpaces the M5 Max in Geekbench 6. The Apple M5 Max crushes the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX by around 34% in multicore performance, while the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 "Strix Halo" is left behind by around 25%.

Even desktop-class chips are no match for the Apple M5 Max, at least in Geekbench 6. The M5 Max outpaces the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and AMD Ryzen 9 9950X CPUs by around 23%. Hilariously, the 64-core Threadripper 9980X is also left in the dust, albeit by a much smaller 6.6% margin.

Needless to say, a single benchmark is far from representative of real-world performance in actual professional workloads. That said, there is no doubt that the freshly launched silicon lineup from Apple will prove to be among the fastest that money can buy.
