Xiaomi and Google may be set for an epic romance, if rumors are to be believed. According to 9to5Google, both companies are working together to deliver a new smartphone.
Xiaomi and Google's first collaborative business partnership came in the form of the highly successful Mi A1. The Mi A1 marked the return of a revamped Android One program, and was the first Android One device to be manufactured by a high-profile OEM, although companies like Motorola and HMD have since followed suit. According to the report, though, this device will not be an Android One device. Not so surprising, of course, since it would appear that the new Android One devices don't have much in the way of direct input from Google.
On the other hand, the device is said to also not be a Pixel device. A Pixel would have been our first guess, as they are manufactured by third-party OEMs. The exclusion of Android One and Pixel makes the list of possible devices a tad bare, since there aren't any other collaborative programs between Google and OEMs.
A noteworthy point is the fact that the device is said to be meant for the US. Could we be set to see Xiaomi's first attempt at doing what Huawei has hopelessly failed to do so far? Perhaps. Time will tell.
