CES 2016 | Aorus reveals X5S and X7 DT Skylake updates
Aorus X5 v5 and X5S v5
The existing 15.6-inch Aorus X5 is only available with GTX SLI graphics, but what about gamers who prefer a single GPU solution? Aorus' answer this quarter will be the X5S with the S standing for "Single GPU". The model can be equipped with up to a GTX 980M and a 4K UHD G-Sync display while maintaining a weight of just 2.5 kg. The manufacturer tells us that the motherboard design will be completely different from the existing X5 v5 to better accommodate the single GPU.
Aorus X7 DT and X7 Pro v5
It was only a matter of time before Aorus included the newly announced GTX 980 into its lineup. The Aorus X7 DT (DeskTop) will be equipped with said GPU with a few design changes to support the more demanding 165 W card. This includes higher rear footing and more ventilation grilles for improved airflow compared to the existing X7 Pro. Otherwise, the standard X7 Pro will receive the Skylake update while holding onto its GTX 970M SLI options.
AORUS Fusion Keyboard and AORUS Audio
The new Skylake notebooks (with the exception of the X5 v5 and X7 Pro) will use Aorus' fully customizable keyboard backlight where each key has its own individual light. This allows for different colors per key and unique lighting patterns impossible on other notebooks. Along with the Lenovo Y900, the Aorus lineup will be one of the first notebooks to incorporate such a feature.
The rich sound profiles are tailored to focus on different types of games and music, giving you louder gunshots in FPS and even shocking engine roars in racing games.
Expect our usual tests and reviews on the new Aorus lineup when the models become available before the end of Q1 2016.
