Anbernic has now returned to churning out retro gaming handhelds after taking a break at the start of the year. To that end, the company has just provided a first look at the rumoured RG477M with a CNC housing. While the frequency with which Anbernic has released similar devices lately is often viewed in a negative light, it has fostered a strong development community.
To that end, members of the Mustard OS (muOS) Discord have managed to get GameCube games running on Allwinner H700-based systems like the RG34XX SP (curr. $88.99 on Amazon). For context, the Allwinner H700 typically struggles beyond fifth-generation home consoles, with even those being a stretch in some cases.
Nonetheless, a muOS fork called muOS Pixie contains enough tweaks to get plenty of GameCube games running in a playable state. Please note that you cannot suddenly start playing the entire GameCube library on an RG34XX or RG35XX device. For instance, Pac-Man World Rally pushes the Allwinner H700 a bit too far. Please see Retro Tech Dad's video below for more information and Retro Handhelds' installation guide for getting muOS Pixie working on your RG34XX or RG35XX-based device.
