CES 2023 | Alienware x14 R2 is official with up to a Core i7-13620H and a GeForce RTX 4060

Alienware has followed up on last year’s x14 with the new x14 R2. Right off the bat, we can see that the company has chosen to tweak the design rather than do a complete overhaul, as the chassis of the x14 R2 resembles the signature Alienware x series design. Overall, the machine measures 260.41 x 321.08 x 14.5 mm and weighs a touch over 2 Kg (~4.6 lbs).

Moving on to the internals, the Alienware x14 R2 comes with the 13^th gen Raptor Lake mobile CPUs. You can choose between the 8-core Core i5-13420H and the 10-core Core i7-13620H. GeForce RTX 40 GPUs complement the new Intel chips as Alienware is offering users the choice between the 50 W RTX 3050 and the 85 W RTX 4050/RTX 4060 boards. Furthermore, the x14 R2 has 16/32 GB of non-expandable DDR5 4800 MT/s memory with a maximum 4 TB PCIe NVMe SSD.

On the RTX 40 configs, the cooling on the x14 R2 is handled by a vapor chamber in combination with Alienware’s Element 31 thermal interface material.

The new Alienware x14 R2 also boasts a new 14-inch QHD+ display with a fast 165 Hz refresh rate, 100% of the DCI-P3 coverage, and a 3 ms response time. Nvidia G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus also make an appearance on the machine. There is also an FHD-capable webcam that supports Windows Hello IR facial recognition.

The port situation on the Alienware x14 R2 is also quite respectable. There is a single MicroSD card slot, one 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a single HDMI 2.1 out, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port that supports PowerShare. All USB-C ports on the x14 R2 support 15 W PowerDelivery and DisplayPort 1.4.

Finally, the Alienware x14 R2 packs an 80.5 Whr Lithium-ion battery that can be topped up with a 130 W Type-C adapter that comes in the box.

The Alienware x14 R2 starts at US$1,799. While we don’t have any final release date information, Dell mentions the laptop will be available this winter.
