Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme announced with Intel Alder Lake vPro processors, a 16:10 screen and loads of accessories
Dell has announced a new tablet tailor-made for operation in extreme conditions. The Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme has all the bells and whistles of a rugged device, complete with MIL-STD 810H certification, a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the screen, corner tether points and programmable buttons. At the back, one gets two hot-swappable 35.6 Wh batteries, a stylus slot, a smart card reader (optional) and an easily accessible NVMe SSD slot.
One can configure the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme with unspecified Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 vPro processors, up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 5,200 MT/s RAM, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD, with a 2 TB option slated to arrive soon. Despite it being rated for use in harsh environments, the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme offers a wide selection of ports, including two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A port and one 3.5mm audio jack. One can optionally add an ethernet jack, HDMI 2.0 port, another USB Type-A port or a serial port in the two configurable slots.
Connectivity options are aplenty on the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme. The tablet supports, 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and GPS. Its 12-inch (1,920 x 1,200) IPS LCD panel supports touch inputs via a stylus and gloves. The front-facing 5 MP front camera is accompanied by an IR sensor for Windows Hello functionality. At the back, there's a basic 11 MP RGB sensor for photography.
The tablet can operate in temperatures ranging between 29 degrees Celsius and 63 degrees Celsius (-20 degrees F to 145 degrees F). Its chassis can withstand rainfall, sandstorms, snowstorms, high/low altitudes and many extreme environments. Dell has an entire ecosystem of accessories for the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme, such as a magnetic dock, keyboard, shoulder strap, rigid handle, stylus, mobile stand and a 90 W USB-C charger. The Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme will be available for purchase by the end of 2022. Dell will reveal its price close to its launch.
