Released in 2018, God of War plunges players into Norse mythology. And during their adventure, they encounter numerous gods, such as Mímir and the World Serpent, Jörmungandr.
And needless to say, he impressed many players with its size and design. Living in the Lake of Nine, this creature could have attacked Kratos and Atreus, but that never happened, and Jörmungandr simply spoke to them in an unknown language.
As a result, many rumors have appeared over the years, sometimes suggesting that he was warning Kratos about the Ragnarök. However, this mystery has finally been solved thanks to a copy of the God of War script that was sent to the WGA Awards 2019 and published by Tian Jun Gu.
Thus, when players first meet Jörmungandr, the World Serpent tells them not to disturb him until they find a tongue to speak with him. As you will have understood, it is at this moment that Mímir is important.
Indeed, he explains that Kratos wants to pay tribute to the mother of Atreus, to which the creature responds:
"Ahh. That pain I understand. First, they need a silver from the tip of the sacred chisel. They must also learn the Black Rune... secreted away in the Temple of Týr.”
Finally, he seems to recognize Atreus, even though Mímir assures him that this is not the case. And this could raise many questions among fans of the franchise.
However, while we now know what the World Serpent said in God of War, it would have been impossible to guess without this video. Indeed, its language is unknown, and the developers had specified that this sequence should not be translated.
