Affordable Snapdragon-powered Anbernic gaming handheld launches with up to 2TB storage support

Anbernic has launched the RG 55G1, the company's first gaming handheld that's powered by a Qualcomm SoC. Specifically, it features the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, a lower-end offering with two performance cores but no Prime cores. It's thought to be derived from a 6-series mobile chipset, meaning its performance will be lower than that of rivals like the Retroid Odin 3.

However, the RG 55G1 could stand as a solid competitor to the budget-friendly Mangmi Air X, which is powered by the Snapdragon 662. Anbernic has paired the G1 Gen 2 with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There's a TF slot that has support for up to a 2TB SD card.

On the front, the Anbernic RG 55G1 has a 5.5-inch IPS display with an FHD resolution. It's a standard 60Hz panel, and the company didn't share the brightness rating.

A 6,000mAh battery powers the internals of the gaming handheld, and it has support for 18W fast charging (45W Anker Nano charger curr. $25.99 on Amazon). Anbernic claims that the runtime can reach up to 8 hours after a full charge.

Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, an active cooling system, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and Nintendo Switch Lite-like design are among the other highlights of the Android gaming handheld. Anbernic is offering the RG 55G1 in two main configurations, and the base config, which has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, has a launch price of $139.99, making it slightly less affordable than the Magmi Air X, which typically goes for $99.99.

The upper-end option with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage has a launch price of $164.99. Anbernic has three color options available for the gaming handheld, and users can purchase the RG 55G1 with a 128GB or 256GB SD card bundled.
